Re: How to care for .32 Cartridge
Waquar: After the expiration date, give them to the closest IFGian friend with pistol license for proper disposal.
An expiration date on cartridges must be a uniquely IOF thing. Some genius working for IOF must have noted such a date on perishables in a super market, and thought this a good idea for their ammo.
Store your ammo in a dry place, don't leave it exposed to the sun or high heat for long times, and it should be good for many years past its "expiration" date.
In the early days of smokeless powder, ten years was considered the shelf life for military ammunition. Primers can also deteriorate, and usually do so before the powder does. Under proper storage conditions modern ammo may outlive you. Poor quality to begin with, or poor storage, can shorten ammo life to twenty or thirty years.

Pritam: Under humid conditions, not a bad idea. I have handloads loaded about forty-five years ago, without sealant, and they still work as if they'd been loaded yesterday. So, take your pick.

Kuwar: Chambers and barrel should always be free of oil and dry before loading for carry, and firing. Oil on the bullet won't hurt the bullet, but if any seeps into the case and gets into the powder and primer, it's another story. Oil in the chamber, and on the case, will severely increase back thrust and stress on your gun, as the brass case cannot cling to an oily chamber during discharge. Some machine weapons in the past were designed (read: needed) to operate with an oiled, or waxed case; but your revolver, or any other gun, is not.

In addition, oil will attract dust and that would affect reliability. With firing oiled cartridges you are basically causing excessive wear and tear on your revolver.TwoRivers wrote:Kuwar: Chambers and barrel should always be free of oil and dry before loading for carry, and firing. Thanks Pritam,
For the information provided.
but please clear some doubt.
Is nail polish will be used in whole cartridge?
Is before firing I have to remove the nail polish?
Is bullets can be put into sun for better result or it can damage the bullets?
Thanks

Re: How to care for .32 Cartridge
There is no point in painting the whole cartridge. Purpose of using nail polish or any similar paint/enamel is to seal the places from where moisture from air or water can enter the cartridge. It is always better to do the sealing when weather is dry. The area to be sealed will be:Is nail polish will be used in whole cartridge?
1) the circular area where the primer and cartridge case meet.
2) the circular area where the bullet and cartridge case meet.
No. Do not use excessive quantity. Use only as little required to serve the purpose to cause sealing of those two areas. Is before firing I have to remove the nail polish?
Avoid strong sunlight or heat for long durations. Is bullets can be put into sun for better result or it can damage the bullets?

Re: How to care for .32 Cartridge
Thanks a lot for you information,
Actually I put few of the cartridge in sunlight for 2 hours as I don't have idea that it will be damaged by the direct heat.
So,is I have to dispose them or it is good now too?
Thanks

Re: How to care for .32 Cartridge
Two hours of exposure to high heat (in the sun), will not have done any damage. Powder is directly temperature sensitive. Higher temp, higher pressure. That's why the big British nitro express cartridges came also with a smaller, "tropical" powder charge to compensate for the higher temperatures encountered in Africa and India. Cordite being especially temperature sensitive. Long time exposure to high temperatures can make permanent changes to the powder.

Re: How to care for .32 Cartridge
Thanks a lot for the information,
But is the same process is for 12mm cartridge as per my knowledge 12mm is paper cartridge.
So, how can I put the nail polish on it?
Is only at the primer side?
Or somewhere else I have to put the nail polish?
Thanks
