There must be more than just Dr.J and myself among the Ifgians. Let's hear from the horse owners among the clan.

Re: How many horsemen?
I don’t own a horse but planning to get some soon. I was a keen rider in school participated in Show Jumping, Dressage, Tent pegging and tried my hand on Polo few times.

Re: How many horsemen?
I have three on my farm...Desi breeds..( dont belong to me either... they r owened by Tapovan or the leprosy rehabilitation institution, looked after by me as Director, a govt. nominee.)
but I dont have professional knowledge on riding. Can just roam around sitting on their back..
But a very interesting topic indeeeeed.. Fits fine with the gun-lovers and their mind-sets...

Re: How many horsemen?
Horse rider - yes! Did a lot of that while an army brat.
Horse Owner - NO, not yet! Would love to own a few. Though I must admit - same problem as many gun owners, laziness in cleaning up the equipment after use
As soon as I have a few acres to my name - I'm getting some

marwaris and kathiawaris are some of the noblest breeds in the world. being hot bloods they are not everyones cup of tea. great story of their origin and history. google it sometime.
a marwari just won the 100 km long distance national (iirc)a while back beating for the first time TB horses entered in the fray.
i have been planning on buying one to teach it tent pegging.

At present I own two. Mushki and Badli. Both are Marwari and marvellous. Before six seven months I was having one Thoroughbred also, but found very difficult to keep it.

faizal you are right,tb horses need good care and also consume lot of greens,so it is difficult to maintain urban situation.

Lot of Army brats here, being the son of a cavalry officer, it was natural for me to learn and enjoy my riding. On my father's side, cousins and uncles all race horse trainers. Personally into Show Jumping as a kid.

Yes,Thoroughbreds are not easy keepers, nor do they always have the best personality (horsenality?) For our climate and purpose, I prefer my Norwegian Fjords. Love, and had, Arabians, too. But they require too much care up here, and tend to be spooky when the terrain is not open.
