Dear Friends

Can any one tell where all the confiscated AK's, revolvers and pistols from terrorists go, and how they are accounted and disposed off. It is often stated that the best of Pistols/Revolvers are cornered by Politicians / Babus/ Police / Army officers at throw away prices. Is it correct ?

Every day you find in the news about arms being captured / recovered. The quantity must be enormous. RTI may reveal the facts. I think these should be auctioned to the highest Bidders through Rifle Associations and or other civil organisations.

I would like to make some comments on Mr. Ayakar's remarks. Most of the fire arms that are confiscated from terrorist groups and criminals are generally the kinds used by military and para military forces in calibers such as 9mm Para. and 7.62x39 (PB). These cannot be issued to civilians as the Indian Arms Act forbids it. These arms eventually land up with our forces. As for handguns, they are generally reissued to our able officers from the dept. of Police. customs, surveillance etc, once they cease to be a piece of evidence in a particular case. This indeed takes a long long time and most fire arms are rendered useless by the time the cases are done with. There indeed is a possibility of certain small numbers of NPBs landing up with MPs,IAS,IPS and Ministers at concessional rates. Most of these are the ones that have been confiscated from civilians entering the country with improper papers etc. If at all these were auctioned as you've suggested, they'd be cornered by licensed arms dealers in a jiffy I assume, to maintain the inflated rates of fire arms.
