I finally got around to restoring my childhood Diana 25. It was passed onto me by my fathers' brother and I presume it may have been purchased in the late 50's or early 60's. Anyway, I shot a lot from it during my holidays home and since it was lying around all rusted up I thought why not restore it and give it to my son who's holidays begin next month?

Now my good friend and member here, ploughindia, has been ever ready to help me with my guns and I really appreciate his thinking out of the box. Both of us have rather limited knowledge with disassembling and assembling air rifles but attempting the IHPs last January really got us going since the basic mechanism is the same.

First, the two of us visted the IHP factory and bought a spring, piston washer assembly and breach seals for the IHP25. The rifle was dissambled and stock given to a local carpenter to sand lightly and polish while I gave the metal parts to my a/a dealer for blueing. Both these gents did a wonderful job and the rifle was assembled in 15 minutes flat at ploughindia's factory by him.

Of course, there is no tuning or modification. Just what I feel the Diana25 ought to be.

The rear sight is broken in this particular air gun. Would appreciate it if anyone can spare me one.

Anyway, here are some pics of the completed air gun.

Pritambhai,

The hot blueing was done at our mutually acquainted arms dealer. I also had my old AirMaster .22 blued along with the Diana. Surprisingly he never charged me for it! Will call you and work out the restoration affair.

I had restored another one that used to be kept at our farm and generally used to chase away pests. This is an AirMaster ModII in .22. Seems more like a Calcutta gun to me, but surprisingly it seems to be a knock off from a Weihrauch design! Most unlike the Diana copies that one comes across. Note the tapered barrel and the cocking arm cradle. Even the stock is not fully slit like the early Dianas and todays IHPs.

Over the years this one passed through the hands of various employees and myself too, with the result that the spring was broken, washers, breach seal etc. were worn out and rusted just about everywhere...........so the I did the best I could. Hopped over to the IHP factory and bought up an entire spring and washer set. The piston and receiver barrel, the actual barrel were a bit rusted and the air gun was dissembled and given for buffing. Surprisingly this is the finest built Indian air rifle I have seen. The materials are just top notch. Anyway, the friendly neighbourhood arms dealer did the blueing himself while the stock was prepared by my good friend, ploughindia. I have retained the original stock with spacer and butt plate. the wood seems to be teak.

In 3 days flat the gun was ready! Now was the time to assemble it. So the 2 of us sat over one night and finished it in just half an hour. However, I have run into a problem. The main screw holding the action to the stock has given away and till such time I can find an exact replacement, I have attached it through a 6mm bolt because of the length requirement.

Note the basic sights. It does not allow adjustment for windage. And the serial number.......15! Maybe the company wound up soon after that! Anyway this article was purchased by my father in the early '80s from Ahmedabad.

Hello Katana
I always appreciate people who keep their guns in good condition, speaks volumes of their charachter. Astonished to know that the pistol is still accurate and in good working condition.
