Hi Guys
I am coming to Delhi on a business trip in November and would like to see how shooting is done there in my free time. Now I have already read in another thread that even for renting any gun on the shooting range itself you need a licence.
I do have a licence for a .357 BUT it is a German one :(

Anyone an idea if I could rent a gun with my licence?

If you wish to use the Karni Singh range, you should read the following document:

http://www.sportsauthorityofindia.nic.i ... ile914.pdf

Besides the fact that you need to be licensed (in India) for the category of firearm you wish to rent, you also need to give in a separate application for gun rentals, approval of which may take a few days.

Furthermore, there is no provision for purchasing ammunition at the range and no arms dealer will sell you ammunition without an arms license.

Lastly, I have been told that there is a severe paucity of specialised target paper needed for the digital target system and shooters need to make their own arrangements for the same.

Amazingly, despite all this Indians win medals at international meets..!!!

Cheers!

Thanks Mundaire. It is realy amazing how anyone in India makes it to the shooting range! I guess 80% give up before they even touch a gun.
I won`t stay long enough to apply for anything there but I think next time I will contact the Indian embassy, maybe there are some procedures for foreign shooters visiting.
Best wishes
Alex

Nice to hear this amazing news but like some other IFG members, I'm far away from the range too. Also the Sunday closed thing made me confused, most casual shooters like to shoot on Sundays as a lot of people in India don't get Saturday as holiday. Personally I work everyday of week, part-time though but on Sundays I work full time finishing the week's unfinished work.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Prior to it closing down for the commonwealth games, the Karni Singh range used to be open on weekends. However, the great babus in their infinite wisdom have now decided that keeping it open on weekends was subjecting the employees to needless hardship, hence... it is now closed on every Sunday and alternate Saturdays.... as usual your tax Rupees hard at work, people! :P

lol how do I post a resume to get a job as range master there? I have no problem working 12x7 near guns. Again babu mentality, soon India would be a nogun country like most "liberated" ones. We can have "Indians For Makeup" or "Indians For Babus" then instead of "Indians For Guns" :P Also I guess the second Saturday and Fourth Saturday holiday bulls**t of local offices here came to Delhi.

Hey guys,

Anyone here a member of this range that can help me? I am interested in joining for training and I called the range where a very bored person answered the call and said that come on Sunday to discuss with the coach. Can anyone shed some light on the membership process, cost and requirements?
