Modification for Front Sight of IOF .30-06

Post by denzilmatthew » Wed Apr 20, 2011 4:53 pm

Hi,

Two days Back I got my front sight Band for putting the hood sight on it. Since I was busy so today I went to gunsmith to get the original barrel Band which comes with IOF .30-06 remove for installing the Rail Band on it. Here are the pics of the Barrel band with the front sight on it and peep sight at the rear.

The first pics if after removing the original Barrel Band. There is a pin across that has to be removed first.

2. In this pics the Barrel band which has rail on it is placed.

Hi,

After my competition I am going to place the order of another sight so that I will ask you which sight you want so I'll get it for you.

Nice work Denzil, the one saving grace of the newer 2010 IOF .30's is the 3/8" groove they've cut on the receiver to accommodate almost any peep sight that will clamp onto it, one suggestion here, given the inertia the rifle will generate under recoil the sights might creep towards the muzzle, both front and the rear, you can fabricate an arrestor and place it suitably ahead of both the sights and make sure they're making full and square contact with them thereby preventing any creep that might possibly occur..

just my 0.002 cents

Good luck!

Hi Z375,

The front sight is specially for 300m rifle, so I won't think it will move. Rest let me test and see.

Hi Pritam,

The front sight of IOF .22 can also be done in the same way. So if you are planning to do it do let me know I will help you out in that.

Good work Denzil!
