I don't think it's about whether the barrel is cold or hot, but clean and lightly oiled vs. fouled by a shot or two. Clean and oiled will usually change POI at 100 meters, or yards, by and inch or two with most rifles. Cold and fouled will not, in my experience. Hence always a fouling shot before the hunt, and no cleaning while on the hunt. (Unless it's raining.) Nothing for the casual shooter to be concerned about. Cheers.
