Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hello Jonah,
As long as you are having fun, go ahead, but if you need to improve a bit, try the grip lesson first.
Thanks Lucky
AGN
Way to go, still I do not advise any form of cant because it will lead to injury in the long run. Keep at the box drills and you will gradually improve.
Best Regards to all

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Thank you, hvj1 - I shall try a slightly modified stance. Earlier the right hand was straight out at right angle with the body. I shall still keep it straight but will now bring it further inwards to align with with the nasal-mid-thoracic axis. This ought to eliminate the head cant and at the same time make some allowance for the left eye dominance. Shall started SA with the new position clinically; I already feel better than before as the attention-stealing stress on the neck's disappeared. Please confirm if I have taken the right step. Thank you yet again for your guidance.hvj1 wrote: AGN

Hello AGN
That is what we are trying to achieve, there should be NO PAIN. Having achieved that continue with your new stance and SA BDs.
Best Regards

Hi hvj1,
Had a chance to visit the Smarak range last week and chanced upon meeting with Vishwajeet. He was kind to observe my "new" stance and suggested further change in the stance. Now legs are parallel, shoulder-width apart but at 45 degrees left with the previous stance. In other words, if my shooting arm (right) is at North then I am facing Northwest when head is not turned towards the target. Hope this will click for me.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
After experimenting with the different stances - one Question crops up. In fact I am surprised it didn't pop up early on. Are there any legit stances in AP shooting apart from rules of "single-hand/ no wrist support/ no shoes above ankles types" or basically any stance (as per shooter's wish & comfort) is OK ?

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hello AGN,
1. First and foremost, you missed the shocked smilies that accompanied my best wishes, in the previous post. That is because, you and and other novices like you tend to make a very BASIC mistake- NOT ASKING advice from a PISTOL SHOOTING COACH/SHOOTER with minimum FIVE YEARS experience at the highest level. Vishwajeet, is a very dear friend, however he is not qualified to coach a Pistol shooter. Unfortunately in India, every rifle coach, considers pistol coaching no different from rifle shooting and thus passes on tips in good faith. Until unless one has shot at the national level for at least 5 years, one really is not experienced enough to know the nuances of that particular discipline.
My advice to you is to discuss the issue with a Pistol Coach with necessary experience/qualifications.
2. Get on with the job of shooting , DONT get HUNG UP on the STANCE alone, you can always improve it at a slightly later date (3-6 months).
Best Regards

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Yes you are right; btw, did not miss the "shock" - just that there was a Tsunami (shockwave ) within as I seem to get back to the starting position every time - like snakes and ladders. But then I realized that Rome was not built in a day (though Huns razed it to ground in almost a day). I tried my hand wrt the new stance etc. at the range today - nothing to boast much but then fault would be entirely mine at this level. I am still in 40s for SA though once (and only once) I jumped to 63.hvj1 wrote:Hello AGN,

Can I visit you at Balewadi (Pune) whenever you are there - for a "full check-up" ? Sometime post May 8th ? Will be back from a long road trip visiting forts of Konkan and Sahyadris, followed by another to Kelwe. Nagar's a challenge for a day-trip but will execute it if need be. Please do let me know either way.
As always thank you for your kind and encouraging words.
Regards
