You sure that was done in India. I mean no one would go through the pain of exporting a gun like that and it’s pretty hard to export 12 bore that’s what it looks like if I am not mistaken. I mean some of the gunsmiths in west also do come up with some pretty ugly work.

no the gun in question would never come across my doorstep, i couldent even use anything from it as spare parts.

this gun came from a mass imported lot from india, in the 1980's as far as the vendor informs me. the lot consisted of some very fine guns as well as a whole lot of guns like this. i should buy it for you, as a constant reminder of why the work you do is so importent, even when sometimes it seems like atlas work. buti dont think theprocess of getting it back to you would be worth the effort

good to see you here regularly
Sad to see all the fine examples of gunsmithing...brings tears to my eyes. The art and science of gunsmithing fine double is probably 'almost' dead-I say almost because there may just be some one who learnt from his grand father or some thing like that
India being such a big market for Brit doubles, I am sure there were enough and more competent people to handle repairs-but that is a thing of the past
I have in the past, used terms like 'bed pan mechanics' to describe some of the gun design and gun smithing-I am sure your pics only serve to highlight, what I initially thought was a harsh term
A lot of it stems from the very harsh gun laws, no formal training, a complete loss of gun owner ethos over the last generation
the massive amount of foreign funds to anti gun organisations like CAFI would only help to increase the rot...
The Police treating every gundealer and in effect, their smiths, as guilty of siphoning off ammo into the vastly profitable 'black market' and the constant harassment has only added to the death knell
Which Engineering grad wants to go into gunsmithing? MBA , USA& computer science seem to be a way of life now
Probably some ex army, CME type retired gunsmith will be worth his weight in gold.
OT, how did Michael's projectiles perform in your tests?
My 458 B&M may be delayed for a while. due to some other issues

mikes bullets are doing out of this world magic, i do belive that i have found a refreshing old/new way to play with elephants, so far we are talking about the 585 grains bullet going at 2050 fps, and i think it is enough for now, at least my shoulder thinks it is enough, also because the test work is done with a 7-8 pound rifle, it is a world of hurt after 15-20 shots imagine a 500 NE at 7-8 pounds weight it is not all that fun, but great effect at the reciving end.
