Lessons from our friends.

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

Lessons from our friends.

Post by shooter » Fri Mar 25, 2011 5:52 am

Dear fellow members and our esteemed moderators.

I have noticed that many members are using this site as a personal advertising media.

Others just demand answers to their queries and others spam etc.

Million others will ask what airgun or handgun to buy.

A lot of people have been treating this post as a personalised google service without even looking up the relevant threads

Now most of us are also members on the other forums (many gun related).

On those forums many of our 'routine' practices wont be allowed.

I am NOT saying that ours is an inferior forum but feel that there is always a chance of improvement.

I am not a mod and neither am I IT savvy but can give some suggestions to improve our beloved IFG. You guys can decide if the logistics allow implementation.

All these suggestions come from other sites like NE,AR,SD, ABBS, etc etc

1) first post HAS to be an introduction. Not allowed to post in other sections till intro posted.

2) First 2-3 posts are censored. They arent visible till scanned by the mod team.

3) not allowed to post wanter/for-sale ads till minimum 10 posts are written.

Other suggestions are welcome.

The only solution i cant see is how to avoid people ask two oft repeated questions. Maybe make them 'sticky'.

Like it or not but the oft repeated questions function as troll/spam unintentionally.
Sometimes i wonder if people do all this on purpose. I mean when they say they stumbled upon this site while googling their question............................... (whatever), i am sure the hit/result they get contains a post related to their question.
Then why not go through that thread?

Mods hats off to you guys and what you have to go through.

Not much contribution on this thread except for +1 to what shooter said.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Hope you ain't comparing IFG to Glocktalk or THR, unlike those Americans for most people in India gun is still a dream let alone shoot so they may ask some weird question and may make some mistakes. Personally I never touched a gun in my life( Probably will never get a chance after what happened today) , my only gun knowledge is from here and few other online source. +1 to the 3rd suggestion though. lol I never post a intro too but I think most of the IFGians know me now.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?
