Merits:

1/ very Light weight and versatile to carry in the bush
2/ cheaper
3/ imported hammer SBBL capable of powerful striking of the cap.
4/low maintenance
5/personally i have used many weapons but found SBBL to have the tightest grouping of pellets.

Demerits:

1/ No quick second shot
2/DBBL has better balance

The grouping depends on the choke and not on the number of barrels.

This is a thread about hunting and pray do tell us how many times and how much have you hunted with a SBBL.

1. how is a 32 inch gun lighter and easier to carry in the bush than a smaller barrel?
2. cheaper, true. but a bow and arrow, or the school chowdikaar's ballam will be cheaper still.
2. will birds know if the hammer is imported?
3. granted low maintenance, but you are only firing one barrel. It's like calling my uncle's Fiat low maintenance since he never drove it, instead of my Honda which is still going strong after thousands of miles.
5. grouping has naught to do with barrel number, but choke

what is the point of a single shot hunting gun that stops you delivering a following shot? not exactly ethical is it? or have you been watching re runs of "Deerhunter"?

shooter/Hamiclar01,

SBBL is my favorite, and you also have to respect others opinion.

if you are happy with a ballam (or whatever that means), i cannot help it.

I would prfer a semi-auto actually. Ideally something along the lines of a Valmet 12 or Saiga 12.

On a serious note have never hunted with an o/u but think it should be ok.

OT.

An SBBL has its place. Where it excels is in the handling department and being a knockabout inexpensive shotgun in rough terrains. A friend of mine who writes for many European journals has customised, mostly stock work, his IZH-18 and he says it's right up there. I am not saying that it's better than pricier SXSs and O/Us but it's not without it's merits.

Best-
Vikram
