So here we are, I have just come back from Satara, thought I will share a few photos with you all.

looks supper, mate, shame about the old rusty white vehicle laying around any thought of removing it to the scrape dealers and using the money for a permanent tent for me

the swining pool looks good, keep it up i am sure it would make a very good reservier for most endangered spices of IFGns.

Thats a good plan, I shall make a point to meet you all in Satara for the meet, if time permits. If you can elaborate more on the problems in sahyadri Tiger Reserve. If you have any contacts in Forest Dept. or any activist who is sincere and honestly putting his efforts for the conservation. who can give us an idea of ground realities. please let me know.

Beautiful pictures and great efforts. Hopefully you allow me to visit it some day.

I am curious as to why you had to bull-doze the strip for two tents and a cottage ? Would it not have been more beautiful to build the cottage as "springing" from the Earth itself ? (Yeah yeah, I know we all read Fountainhead ! )Unless of course, you aim to reduce wood usage in its construction and want it to be bigger than a regular log cabin. Patches of say 15'X15' , leveled, would have sufficed for tents. In fact, tents would be more in tune amidst trees than out in open. Of course, I presume that planting of tress (especially shade-givers) in that strip is next in terms of planning ?

Umbar as it is, is considered holy but what makes it special is its position in the NE direction (Ishanya - Direction of Ishwar or Divine Energy) of your plot. May I also suggest Pimpal and Banyan in the vicinity ? Apart from shade they also give heavy Oxygen and Ozone (Pimpal). You may have them already in the prospective areas for borewells. A good idea is to get a view from some height - say a hillock in the vicinity or (I am dreaming here) a chopper and check on the 'darkness' of green grass. Quite dark green even in summer implies water source underneath, that evaporates some water and continues to send it 'up' the soil. Not that I am any authority on Vaastu Shastra but sharing what I hear and read off and on.

Another suggestion - since you are planning to work with Tiger Conservation - how about planting shrubs and trees which would encourage the cubs to start learning how to camouflage themselves. A good idea would also be to encourage a small population of rabbits and monkeys as their presence would kindle and encourage natural predatory instincts of the tiger cubs. Would be problematic to control the haunting of monkey business around the cottage/ tent area though.

BTW is that lake same as Koyna project's Shivaji Sagar or a different one ?

Hello Hvj1,

Read and re read this post several times since I joined the forum. Was in Koyna in early 2012 and trekked in the jungle with a few of the FD guys a couple of times during my stay- what an awesome experience and more so because it was and I believe still is, not so well known. A true treasure of the state and hope it remains that way. It's almost half a decade since the last post on this thread so I'm guessing the project is now completely up and running. It would be great to hear about it.
