my 2 cents worth:shooting isnt still popular in our country ,the very mention of the sentence "i like guns" in a group of people makes those people think that you are a violent person.Guns are viewed by many educated people as an instrument of death specially by the females i havent yet seen one that isnt anti-guns,these people dont understand guns the way we see it.sadly every law enforcement and military branch is also happy with our tight laws,from the infantry to special forces the officers feel we civilians shouldnt be even allowed to own guns except for the air pistols,air rifles.when the word "gun" is itself seen in negative light then ofcourse why feel surprised at seeing the no.of IFG members.

I am quite active on a hunting/shooting/bird dog/political griping ( ) board in the US. Most of us do belong to other boards ,though we don't always participate. Generally, when a member on another board expresses dissatisfaction with that board or brings up a subject which we have recently discussed, we send him a PM and invite him to visit our board.

As a result, our membership and ACTIVE membership is growing and we show no signs of the shrinkage of postings that other boards seem to encounter eventually.

You might bring up the subject of guns on other boards, and if a member seems to agree with you, send him a PM and invite him to visit. Or even mention this board (without contact info) on other boards and offer to connect after a PM.

Even in areas where plinking is popular there is no real technical knowledge . Average citizens like me may shoot on a regular basis but to contribute to the site a bit more knowledge is required and contributions to the buy and sell posts definitely do not count. when knowledge is easily available about guns then people who have that knowledge will share it until then the situation which exists will presist.

Your thoughts sparked off an idea:
(Abhijeet / Mods - gentlemen, what do you think - would appreciate your feedback re viability )

Why not have a Button incorporated on IFG (visible only to signed in IFG members - or not?) called say, Introduce a Friend to IFG OR IFG Pal that could work in the following way:

1. Click the button to introduce a friend to IFG!
2. Add name and email ID of friend / prospect (simple form, minimum details).
3. IFG system sends out an automated, intriguing/exciting intro letter to the friend about IFG, and that so and so IFG'ian recommends that he would be interested in joining IFG.
4. IFG system tracks how many intros were brought in by the recommending IFG member and ...
5. Also how many prospects were successfully converted to IFG memberships.
6. IFG could then send automated updates to the introducer - following the introduction email - allowing the IFG'ian to follow up and ensure signing up by the prospect.
7. IFG could consider rewarding - hugely, successful proposers by - say elevating them to a status of Eminence

Notes:
* I do not know if such an idea has been proposed before - but, I am truly interested in seeing IFG numbers grow.
* I am not at all a software man - so I dont know much about how much effort or cost will be involved in setting up such a system.
