ESI Air rifle from Koltatta
Friends I came across an air rifle called ESI said to have manufactured in Kolkatta, in Pioneer sports in chennai mount road. Anybody have an idea about this rifle? The dealer claims its range as 120 mts.

the claim about the 120 mts range is absolute crap! if you want that kind of range, go for a rimfire.

120 meters Thats over the length of a football field.

The chap in the shop confused metres and feet. If an airgun had 120 m range, it would fail the dealwood test and require a license. AND it would cost a few lacs!
Many of these sports shop guys don't have any knowledge of the stuff they are selling, esp if this is a general sports shop keeping sirguns alongwith other sports equipment. I remember a chap telling me I can pump a football by a bicycle pump!
From earlier posts on the forum, Chennai seems to be especially bad wrt airguns, try getting one through courier / post.

Essdee, about the 120 mts... you are right that it is feet. How ever many shops tend to mislead. As for chennai, the best option is Joy of Calcutta.

@ EssDee - from my experience, one can actually use a bicycle pump to inflate a football, by the simple expedient of using a Standard Football Pump Needle. This valve adapter screws into the outlet of the bicycle pump.

The same Pioneer sports in Chennai claimed the same range for an UTA 35 model. When asked if I could examine the air rifle, he said he could show it to me if I could assure him that I would buy it. I thanked him and walked away.

Off topic, but only once
The guy said, you hold the pump (without needle) at the air hole of the football, and pump, you just have to ensure that pump and hole are straight (seedha) and hold tight (kas ke pakadna)!!! (I actually went to buy the needle, and since he did not stock it, this was the solution given)
