Congratulations Olly! Make the best of it now
Justice alone is the mainstay of government and the source of prosperity to the governed, injustice is the most pernicious of things; it saps the foundations of the government and brings ruin upon the realm - Sher Shah Sur, Sultan-ul-Adil.

You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Congratulations Anupam,
What is the criteria for becoming 'Renowned Shooter' is it just score the national qualifying score?

Re: Olly - Renowned Shot
Thank you very much friends, for the barrage of good wishes and blessings. I am truly humbled for all the love that has come my way !
First things first. I am very grateful to IFG for bringing me close to like-minded gun enthusiasts and friends who exposed a hidden talent which lay unnoticed and untapped for last about 30 years, assuming that one should start competitive shooting at about 13 years of age.
What started as a simple passion for plinking, got turned into competitive shooting with the 'push' and technical guidance of friends like Dev, Amit_8888 and M24 who kept inspiring me to move on and improve upon my scores. We competed side-by-side which was a big morale booster and motivation factor.
The unbelievable part is that I have turned from Rookie to Renowned Shot in a matter of just SEVEN months, in the 10m pistol event ! I started for the sake of my 13 year old son 'Gadget-Man' (on IFG), and bought the Morini for him. During the last summer vacations, he was put under the guidance of Mr. Jaspal Rana, the legendary shooter, for a month, who prodded me to 'stop wasting time' sitting idle while my son practiced, and instead take the range pistol and start 'holding practice' for the while. I bow my head to this gentleman for this initiative which just led from qualifying one match to the next. The litmus test was the All India GV Mavalankar at Guwahati in November last year, where all four (Dev, Amit, my son and me) competed. My score of 93% was totally unexpected but it gave me the confidence to 'take on' the Nationals too. It was just about 1 month's dedicated daily practice (more or less !) of 60 shots which showed the results. My son also played the Nationals and did fairly well at 80.3% in the Youth category.
My shooting score-sheet (out of 60 ISSF shots) read as :
22 shots in 10
30 shots in 9
6 shots in 8, and
2 shots in 7
The sevens and eights are totally unacceptable at the National level, which basically kill your score. So the next time I might just need to eliminate the 7's and the 8's... !
Incidentally, I began with 10 'sighter' shots wherein I hit 8 tens and just 2 nines !!!!
But all said and done, I must mention here that National Shooting Championship is no joke and requires complete mind control, nerve control, adequate relaxation and zero worries ! Even a slight 'idea' or 'thought' during the match is disastrous !! My hat's off to all the guys who qualify at the Nationals, now that I know what it takes to cross that fence....
Looking back, I feel inclined to help, share all my knowledge and experience and to 'hold the hand' to bring up anybody who wishes to compete in shooting sports. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE !! I would gladly respond to any queries, provided they are posted on this thread, as I am presently restrained from using the PM facilities.
Thank you once again, for the good wishes !
