My own Chronograph

Post by pratik_mahale » Sun Jan 16, 2011 4:11 pm

I have finally built my own Chronograph for Air rifle
I fix two photodiode in a PVC pipe Distance Between both the sensor is 3 inches.
Then using microcontroller I calculated the time taken by pellets to travel through this sensors & display it on LCD screen
I have don some test using my IHP 35 .177 & different pellets
Here are the readings

1) Master Shot Round –-----------681,673,669,683,670 Avg=675
2) DIANA Shot Flat Head No. 1 –-634,642,649,635,621 Avg= 636
3) Master Shot Pointed -----------591,680,653 Avg=641

You are an ingenious man,Pratik.Very well done. How long did it take you to design and build it?Did you source all the parts locally? Thanks for sharing with us.

Dear airriflesniper,

please introduce yourself.

its unlikely that its a co-incidence that your first post is pointing fingers at someone.

I never said it is my original IDEA OK
If you Google on internet you will get lots of info about Ballistic Chronograph some of my ref link

http://uzzors2k.4hv.org/index.php?page=avrchronograph

http://electronicdesign.com/article/tes ... -ohmm.aspx

http://grieg.gotdns.com/blog/?p=76

But first my aim was to build a Chrono like Chrony F-1 & last year I get all the info (circuit diagram & codes) in an article “Build A Ballistic Chronograph” By David Collins a Nuts & Volts Magazine (June 2009 Page Number 36-40). In this 3 screens of 8” X 8” are used & distance between each screen is 1 feet.
I have built one screen (pic is attached) for test but the screen fell to detect the pellet.
Done lots of R&D by changing photodiode, IR LED & different type of Photodiode amplifier circuit but without any successes so finally switch to very simple & very common pipe detection method. Only I use the mathematical calculation codes from Mr. David

While you make a pertinent point, why be aggressive or accusatory in tone? We could just ask and he would reply as politely. Take it easy fellas. We are all here to learn from each other and be friends.
