Vikram,

I have shot different versions of the IOF .315 and the latest version of .30-06.

The earlier version of the .315 were the "better" ones, later ones being really horrible..try just working the bolt and see what i mean.
The .30-06 is Ok butr just does not have the balance right from the stock to the Bolt.I m sure after firing couple hundred rounds, the bolt will develop vertical play.

Ngrewal - Boss, we need to support Gun enthusiast ppl at the central government.Only then things will improve.

hey guys let me tell you an interesting fact,we compared three each of IOF 30-06 with Remington 700BDL out of the box rifles except the stocks.
As per the internal caliber standards the barrel of IOF is better or at par with most US and european firms, from the OD/ID concentricity and other parameters and grouping, secondly, the bolt on the Remington is two piece assembly whereas on the IOF its One piece.but good thing about IOF is that they under machine components mostly and therefore we can bring these to the required tolerances easily.

if we take a look at Remington just over the counter then the bluing and finish is not what we see on the web page, but seems lousy and uneven if going by Remington or custom standards.the sights on Remington 700 are mostly made of chepo painted alloy.similarly there are couple of more chepo parts assembled onto 700.
now coming to IOF of course the stock is horrible, but the internal parts on a nicely made pieces are comparable to other foreign made.its just that most rifles the parts get spoiled by poor fitters and of course the concept of aesthetics in a rifle is missing on IOF ,but if both the rifles are given a custom look then probably IOF might score a little over the Remington from generic design concept.

However, we should refrain ourselves from saying that being Indian is cheap or products made in India are substandard ,I can prove that this fact is pretty true about all the other countries as well .Most of the English,European and US gun makers boasts about machining parts from solid billets and forgings but its not the case they just mislead people just to prop up their selective sales,i bet if they machine all parts from solid billets then the price would be many fold higher than what it is today for same arms, not all foreign made guns are excellent and similarly not all firearms made by IOF are Crap either! yes nevertheless its true to an extent that out of ten there might be one to three are fairly machined components that can further be brought up to that immaculate condition.
Its sad that our govt policy doesn't allow us to manufacture these items otherwise all that we see and read about firearms designs and execution on the net is pretty much possible here!
STILL I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION HERE THAT I BELIEVE WE ALL HERE ARE VERY MUCH PROUD OF BEING AN INDIAN!

Bobby,

If you read my posts on the IOF .30-06, I have always believed that the barrels were way superior to the action and the stock. I also feel that the trigger assembly might have some parts that have either been imported or are of superior design and/or workmanship, except the trigger tongue. Now I have not removed this for inspection nor am I a gunsmith, so it would be difficult for me to examine them closely. But, I could say with confidence that using this weapon gives me much satisfaction than 'imports' with other people who own rifles in the same or similar calibre.

When I procured the rifle I 'lapped' the bolt manually myself to smoothen the action, sitting every night and cycling it without dry firing it. Tedious and irritating though it was, the bolt fortunately cycles fairly smooth now. Only part left for me to do is to smoothen out the magazine removal and attachment mechanism.

[quote="veeveeaar"]Somebody pl comment on the two fore and rear holes on the receiver. Can an additional rail be fixed, using these, to compensate for the drawbacks ,Bobbysindu mentioned?[/quo

Yes i like to know that as well , like Bobby said do not mount the scope on rail but we can mount other additional rail on the receiver so my main Question about the those holes on the receiver , what are the measurement between the holes front and rear also between the front two holes and rear two holes, if anybody can help on this that would be a grate

The c-t-c for both, the holes on the front and rear of the receiver is 21.91mm, this is a standard measurement found on most modern American and European bolt-action rifles which have their receivers drilled and tapped to accommodate the fixture of optical sights. Use good quality M3 Allen bolts (2.88mm)and avoid over-torquing them or you will strip the thread in the receiver. Hope this helps.

...wouldn't that be because the barrels are made by Steyr?

thanks for the info. i didnt know that. AFAIK, the barrel is the most imp part in a rifle. if it is setyr made, then it must be gr8.
z375's out back had proven that practically as well.

Katana, hats off to your perseverance.

Speaking of foreign brands,
Out of CZ, brno, savage, browning, mauser, remington 700 guess which one doesnt have a free floating barrel (out of box) and the least crisp or rough pull :?:
