Gift for Xmas – Hen and Rooster
http://www.henandrooster.com/aboutus.aspx
Says its German stainless steel, one piece tang and blade, on the other side it says Assembled in Spain. Has Ibex horn sides on the handle.
Not the finish I would expect from a German product, there are machining marks on it, probably it is ground and then assembled in Spain. Guess everyone is trying to compete with the knives coming from China etc and finish and fit takes a back seat. Kind of sad to see a company that is more than 150 years old going this route.

Re: New Knife
Apparently only the steel was made in Germany? It looks like quality has taken a back seat to commercialism.
From the Hen & Rooster website:
It's still a nice knife though, and I'm sure you will get many years of service from it.
From the Hen & Rooster website:
Some shading of the truth here, if it was assembled in Spain? In 1983, the firm was liquidated, and the Hen & Rooster trademark and the Bertram name were acquired by James Frost of Frost Cutlery, Chattanooga, Tennessee; Howard Rabin of Star Sales, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Hugo Schiesen of Robert Klaas, out of Solingen, Germany. After a short period of time, and prior to the retirement of Howard Rabin, Mr. James Frost bought the sole rights to the mark and distribution of all Hen & Rooster knives in the United States. Mr. Frost holds firm to the long distinguished tradition begun by Mr. Bertram; ensuring the superior craftsmanship of each Hen & Rooster knife. These pocket knives continue to be manufactured by highly skilled craftsman in Solingen, Germany. Through it's reputation of excellence, Hen & Rooster® continues carries the title of “World’s Finest Since 1845”.
It's still a nice knife though, and I'm sure you will get many years of service from it.
