Daisy Powerline 856 Multi-Pump Pneumatic - Need Help

Dear all,

After roughly 12 years of storage and 12 weeks of usage, the barrel and the foresight of my Daisy Powerline 856 Multi-Pump Pneumatic Air Rifle has popped out. I wrote to Daisy and since the model has since been discontinued, they could not help much. The Gunsmiths they referred to are located in USA while I am in MMR, India. They did email me an exploded diagram though which I am trying to decipher. I am a bit skeptical about taking the air rifle over to the boy at Humne's (Thane) since he appears to have only the experience with break barrel springers. Has anyone worked with this or similar air rifle before ? Can someone guide me please ? Guidance would be preferred before I proceed on the 'Brute Force Method' - i.e. trying to disassemble it and then scratch my head and palms in the process of putting it together. Incidentally, on the Tools front, I have a set of screw drivers (fix-the-tip type) and polish paper. Could get the washers, I suppose.

Hi,

What you might try is log into another airgun forum like 'yellowforum.com' post your query there. Secondly if the rifle is still holding air then the rest won't be too tough. If you decide to do it yourself, take photographs of how each part looked like before dis-assembly. Then go into the rifle. If you go real slow you will be able to do it. Remember that some springs and all are likely to pop out, so do it on a clean surface, or somewhere little screws and springs will be easy to find. You might get the seals from tim of mac1airguns. There is no one better than you when repairing your own air rifle, just think that someone put it together on an assembly line...that should inspire you. Best of luck.

P.S. Also check you tube for such a dis-assembly.

Hello,

Pneumatic air rifles are some of the easiest to fix. There is no need to over think things. I had forgotten that Fantumfan is around in Mumbai, he is the best amateur airgunsmith for daisys and crosmans. It would just take an afternoon with him to fix it maybe even less.

Kind of you to caution me. I recollect the lawsuit but subsequently it was set aside on the grounds that the accidents occurred "intentionally" and that the Daisy Powerline posed as much risk as any other airgun (wrt BB getting stuck) etc. Some points that went in dismissal were (as I recollect) -
1. Intentional cocking - (you would need to pull the breech bolt back even to load a BB from internal mag)
2. Intentional taking off the safety stop to pull the trigger
3. Intentional pointing (in both the "accidents" the gun was intentionally pointed at victims)
4. Intentional shooting (well, you still had to PUMP the gun and pull the trigger)

So the Judge ruled that it's unfair to singularly pull aside Daisy when these things could happen with any gun. Daisy in its manuals and stamping on the gun has "cautioned" enough plus there's an age restriction of 16 yr to use it. Will try to hunt a link (must be there on the Net someplace).

But yes, for the single shot pellet it's a lot easy on folks to take due care and check the presence of pellet in the breech. Personally, I never shot BBs through it - only .177 flathead pellets.

I am posting some of the related links for IFG consumption and general awareness. The court ruling is towards the center-end (sounds a bit like middle-east, eh? )in italics. Guess what ? One of the small boy "victims" now has become a big time politician and gained some notoriety for frivolous cases !!! Check out the link below:

However, one of the victims did get a BB in his brain (!!!) in 1998 and Daisy settled for $18million as the dude became 'vegetable'. The dude died in 2003. Here's that link.

Something to do with a small magnetized portion that would enable the steel BB to stick up before being loaded into the breech. Thus unless seen properly with light (natural or flashlight) going in through the breech or the gun tapped/ shaken to confirm (which ideally ought to be done to check for a BB), there would be a possibility of a BB getting "stuck".

How right you were ! Finally got around spending a few hours with fantumfan today and he did a wonderful job pin-pointing the problem, locating and repairing it. The gun's functional and operational now - just need to sync in my own self with it. Hope to get back into practice from Monday on.

Thank you gunforpeace. It's shooting wonderfully (for its age and problem) now. Can shoot 60 pellets at a stretch without barrel giving in or anything. A few cosmetic touches are required which fantumfan2003 has promised to look and advise into. BTW, the limitation of 60 pellets follows my own physical limitation of pumping 8-10 times per pellet and of course the time that can be allocated for practice at a stretch; nothing to do with the Daisy's capacity.
