Baljit

Honestly I became squeamish when I saw these pictures, must say he is very luck to survive an attack by one of the most powerful animal. Amazing how he kept his nerve and shot his way out, was any one with him or how did he reach medical assistance?

Again for all of us couch hunters and others a stark lesson on survival and taking all the precautions especially in bear country or wild. Just as we were discussing how Grizzly bears tend to converge to location where they hear gun shots or smell the kill when hunters are cleaning up the animals. Idaho / Montana has had so many incidents where hunters have been caught unaware and paid a terrible fatal price just like you were mentioning.

Do post some nice hunting pictures also...

Appreciate some more information on this lucky chap and his recovery circumstances under which this attack happened did he forgot to follow one of the donts ?

Best

This is not happend with my friend , i'll happend with one of his friend , he went for hunt by him self and next day one of his other friend going to meet him at the same area , when his other friend get there next morning he find him in pool of blood and dead bear in the tent, he call the police and medical assistance.before thay take the picture they pull the bear out from the tent and send him to the hospital, it's take him about more then a year to recouver.
Bear is very danger animal no matter if he is Black, Grizzly or polar.if they are mad thay came after you no matter what and it's ture. where we are in BC we have lot's of bear here, if we whant we can shoot 2 to 3 bear in a day, we know where are thay, just wait for spring thay going to be all over the place.

Doesn't look like this person will be hunting again,he's very lucky to survive;and even luckier if he'll be able to walk in the near future. It just goes to show what a powerful creature the polar bear is,and the respect we should have for it and mother nature as a whole.

vrohan: I'd bet my last dollar that this fellow is still hunting, though he may no longer camp by himself. These people are subsistence hunters, and not easily discouraged. They daily risk their lives on their hunts, whether it be bears, the sea ice, or freezing to death because of a broken down snowmachine.

An eye for an eye.........A leg for a leg. Cheers.

Got a call from Baljit in the morning and had a long chat with him. He says our man has recovered and is still hunting (like Two Rivers has pointed out). He is a native American (Red Indian as we call them) . Tough guy indeed.
Many Sky-divers break their bones . There are few who quit Sky-diving thereafter.
It's probably the thrill which one gets out of ----- Sky diving , Car racing , Motrobike racing, Bull fighting, Dangerous game hunting or any other game which involves risk to one's life which probably puts these people back on the track. Some of them even loose their lives in the process.....but I am sure when death finally comes.....they have no regrets.

Prashant: You'd better be smiling when you call an Innuit/Innupiaq a "red Indian".

Man oh man, the pictures do not do full justice and not many people can fathom the trauma he underwnet. His willpower is made of steel. I can fully vouch for Prashant's statement, I am involved in motorsports and have had a few crashes the initial feeling after a crash is "am I trying to kill myself" but after a minute or two it is just brushed aside. I guess it is passion and the thrill one gets out of doing something they love.

drifter.

That's what Baljit told me. So he is actually an Eskimo and Not a Red Indian , as we know it.

The only 'extreme' sport i have do is wildfowling.

once got stuck in quicksand miles away from civilisation. Had to be rescued.
once got drenched to chest in subzero temperature after accidently 'walking into' a stream hidden by reeds in marshes.

Both the times promised myself that if i lived, i wouldnt wildfowl again but on both occasions, was soon making plans for the next date.

.
Ask a seasoned foot soldier and he will always tell you , that, it is these near death experiences which makes one appreciate the value of life ......and which drives them to live it to the fullest.
