Do windmills with light dumb bells. My rota tor cuff is going crazy and I won't be doing anything much for the rest of the year. But I think that a good weights regimen is really called for.

Simple wrist curls, and flexing of the barbells is good enough, I m afraid windmilling is the shortest route to rotator cuff injury. Please bear in mind, that you dont have to PUMP heavy weights , a 2 kg dumbell is good enough.

Naah the shortest way to rotator cuff injury is trying to swim like you did during your high school days. doing regular fig 8s coupled with some strengthening ex as advised. will start SA drill from monday. will take a shoot only after two weeks of this regular routine. hvj , hope i am doing it correctly.

Dont hold back, if you wish to shoot, the entire joy in shooting comes from actual shooting. if your level has dropped, then it will push you to work harder.

Explain something to Guruji, whenever I shoot with care concentrating on shot sequence, follow thru etc, I shoot about 88% score. I throw caution to the winds and shoot fast, don't think about anything and I shoot in the 90's. Anywhere from 92 to 96. This is confusing the heck outa me...please to consider and advise. Another thing my pistol just doesn't shoot well with non-German pellets as proven once again on Saturday evening. I shot the last ten with Masterkugeln (can't spell this right) and there you were one tight group.

First and foremost, if you have learnt to ride a bike, there is no need to pay attention on each step, from mounting to pedalling to keeping balance.... all this gets programmed in your subconscious. Initially it is very important to focus on each and every step, till such time it comes naturally. So if you have programmed yourself correctly, then you may shoot fast. BUT, when your performance dips, you need to pay attention to the specific steps that have gone wrong. Then reprogramme yourself. While shooting, we commit minor errors, which is quite natural since we are not machines. By repeating these errors, we program ourselves, hence.... pay attention to the steps when performance dips..
Secondly, pistols/guns are very much like humans, they are partial to their diet. If your pistol is partial to Miesterkugeln, then please stick to it.

Notes on Trigger Operation
Many years ago, I was shooting on the Worli Rifle Range (Mumbai). That particular day, I had shot 572/600 and naturally was quite pleased with myself. Panditji (Ashok Pandit) was practicing on the 25 m range, it so happened, that I joined him while he was relaxing. He evinced interest in my cards, so I showed them to him. While he nodded in acknowledgement of my shooting that day, he however pointed out the three 8's that I had shot. We had an interesting conversation then, which I understood only many years later. Panditji remarked, while checking the cards, that only a novice who has not mastered correct trigger operation, will shoot 8s consistently. Though even top shooters do shoot 8s, but they are very rare and far between.
The other day, I was having a conversation with Dev and he mentioned another shooter, who has been shooting in 555 - 558s range. Out popped the very same line from my mouth - hmmm hasnt mastered trigger operation.
We all know, that trigger operation must be smooth, continous and straight back along the line of the barrel, extended through the forearm. But how many of us really do so. One of the commonest problems is the long hold, shooters holding on for more than 7-8 seconds, stretching over 10-12 seconds. Even after admitting to themselves, that they should'nt be doing it, STILL, they cannot get over it.
One of my best students, faced the same problem, till I asked her to shoot her match within 45 minutes (40 shots). Another way is to shoot sports pistol or standard/rapid/centre fire pistol. Shooting different events, which have duelling aspects,develops confidence on your trigger control.
Observe the top shooters, their shotbreaks almost with metronomic regularity.
So, learn to cancel your shots if you feel that your trigger activity is slow and learn to shoot quickly.

Since I plan to pursue both air-rifle and air-pistol shooting, do I plan out two sessions each of 2-2.5 hr ? One in the morning pursuing, say, the rifle and the other later in the evening, pursuing the pistol ? I am not clear on “Fig 8 exercise”. Looked up on this thread and found frequent references to it but could not figure it out.

I don't know whether the Idea of practicing Rifle and Pistol together is a good one, may be experts will comment on it, but I'm sure you are not allowed to participate in competitions (At least NRAI & ISSF) both together.

Competitions are far off for me; I am currently a starter in both. Dilli door hai - abhi galli mein hoon. . When I get up to decent progress mark will surely seek periodic expert evaluation on the path to proceed further from the fork. Or do I have to make a choice right now, at start itself ? Meanwhile all the tips would be a great help. Thank you once again.
