Sr. Citizen shoots at Robbers
There is this news article in today's Hindustan Times Delhi edition reported by Peeyush Khandelwal [email protected].
64 yrs old OP Arora is a satisfied man even though he lost Rs.3 lacs to robbers in a daring day-light robbery at a busy market intersection at Nehru Nagar in Gaziabad on Monday.
Here is the link http://www.hindustantimes.com/Rs-3-lakh ... 17869.aspx
Complete story is:
and his brother Lalit Kumar, 45, managed to shoot at one of the three robbers even as they escaped with the cash.
The robbers, aged between 25-30 years, intercepted Arora and his brother, around 11am and pointed a gun at Arora. The duo was on their way to deposit Rs 3 lakh in cash at a nationalised bank at Nehru Nagar.
Arora — a retired bank official — pulled out his licensed pistol and had a scuffle with the robber while the other two engaged his brother who also had a licensed pistol.
There was an exchange of fire between both sides. The robbers fired four rounds at the brothers but they were unhurt.
As the trio was escaping with the cash-filled bag, the Arora-brothers fired six bullets at them and one of them sustained a bullet-injury, but managed to escape. “The robber was stunned as I took out the pistol. While I managed to save the pistol, the robber took away the bag. The trio then boarded their black-Pulsar and sped away,” said Arora.
“The locals have told us that the robber was injured during the exchange of fire and was bleeding. Both the brothers fought bravely with the robbers and will be rewarded. Robbers will be apprehended soon,” senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said and directed Sihani-Gate police station officers to lodge an FIR in the case. However, Arora was reluctant to lodge an FIR in the robbery case citing inhuman treatment by police officials five years back.
“Earlier, Rs 10 lakh were robbed from our residence at Avantika but the police officials, then, beat our family members and took a written note that no incident ever occurred,” Arora told reporters and the SSP
Please write to the reporter highlighting NOW WITH THE DARCONIAN NOTIFICATION AND AMENDMENT TO ARMS ACT IT WILL BE HARD TO READ SUCH CASE " 64 yrs old OP Arora is a satisfied man even though he lost Rs.3 lacs to robbers in a daring day-light robbery at a busy market intersection at Nehru Nagar in Gaziabad on Monday".

This is yet another example, highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in most metros and populous cities, where the police are short of man power to administer uniform control over the entire city on criminal elements. To compound problems the the Ministry of Home Affairs, under P.C. Chidambaram, are hell bent on reducing genuine licence holders rights to self-protection under one pretext or the other. Under the proposed ILLEGAL ammendments and orders passed by the Home Ministry, a citizen will not get an arms license until such time it is proven that there is a threat to his/her life. Since its almost impossible to prove this, No citizen seekinga arms license will be able to protect himself in the future. Thus making it very easy for criminals to get away scot free by terrorising ordinary citizens.

Re: Sr. Citizen shoots at Robbers
Let me sumarize it:
- Six rounds fired, one hit.
- Mr. Arora after losing three Lacs a satisfied man, when will he get next chance to fire his expensive pistol. Shooting six bulltes for Three lacs, thats the cost
- He managed to save the pistol.
- Old man of 64, licence for the young generation no, will fight with stones.
- Seeing Arora pulling out pistol, robbers were stunned, with PC on their side how could a civilian pull out a GUN, and with little ammo quota and virtually no place to practice, fire.
- Like movies police enters after its over. No doubts hospitals are crowded.
- Locals watched, what else?
Cheers

This is exactly what i wondering, today sitting in licensing office in def colony. Majority of license holder there were above 50 for sure. I could only spot 2 other ppl whom i would group in age group of 30-40 and this is not just today i have being noticing it from past 2-3 visits. There are very few license holders in new generation.Biren wrote:- Old man of 64, licence for the young generation no, will fight with stones.
I am sure had it not being for these brothers to be armed, they would have got much more serious injuries, as it is only human nature to save your money.
This also highlights the fact that had they being using their weapon more frequently, they would have probably hit the robbers in right places and they would not have fled.

Re: Sr. Citizen shoots at Robbers
Hi Biren,
Thanks for sharing the news, I know arora uncle personally, as i stay in the same locality. Both of them (Mr.arora and his brother) have used their IOF revolvers during the incident. Some nearby shopkeepers were eye witness to the entire incident.
As per them he would have not let the robers go with the cash, but as one of the robber pulled out his pistol and tried to take mr. arora on gun point, mr.arora in return pulled out his revolver, by this the robber was stunned, and instead of grabbibng the bag the robber tried to snach his revolver. In order to save his revolver, his grip on the bag went lose and the other robbery encashed this oppourtunity and snached the bag.
I agree with subal, with a limited ammo 10(25) in most of the cases for civilians in UP, their are no oppourtunities for them to practice shooting. As per my knowledge Mr. arora and his brother hardly fire some bullets on diwali nights yearly and that to skywards..
so considering this 1 hit out of 6 shots is not bad..in such tricky situation..

Thank God their pistols went bang. Good that the seniors had the presence of mind to actually be able to fire in such a situation. Good old guys, hope the robbers are caught.
