I thought that monkey was just the machinist. I'm not sure that we care to know who the designer was. :D

Hello grewal,
You have expressed your dis-satisfaction for the designer by the picture.
But How do you know that:
The Designer of IOF products is given a Free Will to Design the products ?
The Designer is NOT pressurized by his So called Superiors, so as to Finalize a Design as per THEIR decision ?
The Designer is Liked for his Honest Efforts OR Disliked because he Betters his superiors in Design ?
The Designer cannot get his Design Approved because he doesn't have TOP CONTACTS.?
The Designs are Rejected because the Favorite Vendor is Unable to supply the part (Hence commission Loss). ?
The Designer belongs to the same community as his Management superiors ?

Hope you have seen the Traffic Policeman who Let-Go a Luxury Car, but Catches a Two Wheeler for jumping a signal.?

Thanks & Regards

I sincerely believe that IOF doesnt have a design dept., atleast as far as civilian firearms are concerned. They are just bad copies of weapons already manufactured. A point to be noted is that even if they did have a design dept., their workmanship leaves a lot to be said. Like having Pininfarina redesigning the Maruti 800, but the workmanship will still remain the same!

Anyway, the theory is that the govt. wishes to curtail the legal trade in firearms, 'proliferation' as they call it, so that an artificial level of prices is attained, thereby pushing out obsolete weaponry and stiffling trade of newer weapons. It's a two pronged strategy and India is not the only govt. practicing it. Now where does the IOF fit in? Simple really. If you cut off all supply you got to have your own manufacture. Nehruvian economics. But that leads to inefficiency...and who pays for that? The Indian taxpayer, and more importantly the defence and paramilitary forces. So the IOF slumbers on.

Yes Nehruvian Economics rightly said
that what they learnt from the british ,(birtish is in lower case), to make a point, divide and rule, that how we became India and Pakistan.
Same goes to all the firearm policies and the firearm industry, manufacture the works

Lenny,

Sorry to say, but the Brits, as our late rulers, were a much practical lot than our current rulers. Now I'm rather apolitical, but should you read the economic history of India you would understand what I'm talking about. In fact this strategy of arms reduction was formulated by the UN fairly lately, in the mid eighties, and believe it or not, the UK is one of the foremost proponents of this sytem today. Check their ban on handguns for example.

Right, since copying is the name of the game here , IOF should manufacture that Browning Hi-Power 9mm copy in .32acp caliber too for civilian use. It would no doubt need after-purchase tuning up for better feeding/functioning but I guess it would look a lot better than the "gawky" Ashani which is not even a pretty copy of FN 1910. The issues of concealed carry of a larger pistol can be discussed if this dream comes true !

Well the U.K. is a nanny state! They have stiffled the civilian use of hand guns, but are still one the leading exporters of military hardware in the world, and the U.N. strategy for arms reduction was to control their proliferation in conflict zones. Its high time we stop looking to the "white skinned"races for inspiration,we had greater economists in India-Chanakya for example.
