@rishudhawan - Thanks, my point exactly. For more serious chrono-ers branded chrony is always an option.

BTW, occassionally the pistol fires with a dull THUD and the pellet seems to go nowhere. Neither is it stuck in the barrel ( smoothbore ). On breaking the barrel a little smoke comes out.
Is this normal ? Why does this happen ?

Re: Shooting chronograph
i suspect your pistol MAY be dieseling.... check if you have excessive oil in the compression chamber, OR it also can be a case of your barrel seal wearing out.

Re: Shooting chronograph
Checking that basically involves air gunsmith ; or is it DIY ? If DIY can anyone point me to the appropriate forum please ? Thanks.

I am sure your homemade chronometer result is WRONG! I suspect the speed is much lower as the pellet is getting stuck in, into the barrel which is merely 6 inch.

Re: Shooting chronograph
A pointed pellet from the pistol is able to completely go through a CD within a jewel case at 20 ft.
It also punctures soft drink cans ( Diet Coke ) rather easily @ 25 - 30 ft. I suppose that can be taken as
corroborative evidence of the homemade chrony not being too far wrong.
"pellet is getting stuck in, into the barrel which is merely 6 inch."
Just to clarify , the pellet is not getting stuck in the barrel. It is just not travelling as fast and hitting as hard
as the other shots.
