The matter is being taken up by the Home Standing Comittee under instructions of the PM and Speaker. Expected to be considered early next month.

And what is the outcome that we are positive about? The reversal of the changes? Not being smart just don't know.

Dev I guess the changes the MHA was in the process of doing might be reviewed,so lets be happy that they dont change the Act.Satisfied little souls we are? or maybe just plain DUMB.Lets take a step ahead,if with the help of NAGRI the MPs can be convinced, then lets have the whole Arms Act reviewed.Lets all get together and inform the Govt that the Arms Act was an instrument of the GORA SAHEBS for Slavery of the Natives { Indians} and if we claim to be an independent nation lets cut of and burn umblical cord which still ties us to the Shadow of Slavery.Lets prove to the genrations to come that we are our own MAI BAAPS and the legacy of the GORAS/BROWN SAHEBS is not our MAI/BAAP .

Re: reg:change in new arm policy of mha 2010
I guess I am pessimistic too when it concerns our politicos, how ever, the fact that the speaker of the House and the PM, and the Home standing committee are involved in this, is itself a welcome situation. What was that, about too many cooks ....
Now, it could have been worse, as in the case of the 1983 changes to the Act, (that I guess went unopposed) that led to the current situation. First off the involvement of NAGRI and the input of members here and the MPs has drawn attention of the media, and the issue has been taken to the highest legislative authority in the Country. Whether this is sufficient "to set things right", is not the only concern, we must also see that this does not happen in the future on the whims and fancies of the MHA or anyone else for that matter.
The only way that can happen is,if there is a review of the Act and the suggestions and concerns of all are addressed based on absolute fact and not conjecture. If the concern of the MHA is the misuse of licensed firearms, then there is ample proof to the contrary. However, political decisions seldom have a single motive. The incompetence of certain individuals or a whole ministry will be brought into question if they don't at least appear to be doing "something". Whether that "something " should be these ridiculous changes in the Arms Act/Policy is only one question. What exactly is being done where use of illegal firearms is concerned???
This new policy is about as silly as a situation where all the firearms in a Police Station (some where in Central India) had been shifted to the DHQ so that there would not be a risk of Maoists attacking and stealing them or something. If this is the logic, I wonder what would happen if this attitude should percolate in to our Defense Ministry!!!
So as pessimistic as I am, I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping and praying for the best!!
Regards,
Anand

Re: reg:change in new arm policy of mha 2010
I agree. We need to get this whole Arms Act reviewed. Its correct place is in dustbin. Who are the members of the new Standing Committee? Have they been informed of the facts i.e. the real game of MHA to legitimize the illegal order with help of Arms Amendment Bill 2010? Since the members of Standing Committee are not lawyers, hence they will not be able to read between the lines to understand the legal game played by the lawyer Chidambram.Lets take a step ahead,if with the help of NAGRI the MPs can be convinced, then lets have the whole Arms Act reviewed.Lets all get together and inform the Govt that the Arms Act was an instrument of the GORA SAHEBS for Slavery of the Natives { Indians} and if we claim to be an independent nation lets cut of and burn umblical cord which still ties us to the Shadow of Slavery.
I agree. Criminals never bother to apply for arms licenses and it is of no consolation to victims of crime if they are assaulted by legal or illegal weapons. Since license holders are easy and soft targets, babus take the easy way out to show that something is being done.If the concern of the MHA is the misuse of licensed firearms, then there is ample proof to the contrary.

Re: reg:change in new arm policy of mha 2010
Rather than waiting, can we prepare our case for the members of standing committee?
I mean we should use the time to chalk out our strategy, this fight is against the government.
I mean drafting or organizing all our documents; planning how we'd approach whom, when, with what arguments. It has to be well thought.
I suggest it is time to meet (and may be sometime we can tele conference the teamed folks from various cities).
