Re: My search for ultimate dog breed ends!
My boxer is very sensitive for non veg diet, have to give it in small quantity were as no problem with vegetarian diets. He is a bit hyper active love's to play the whole day, even hunted few squirrels from our farm. While during the day time he is calm but once it's dark you can't even enter the farm. Last week itself while in the mid night he started barking like hell, and jumped on the main entry door like he wants my dad to wakeup who was alone at the farm and that too without any arm (thanks to the licensing dept.) and help other then our dog who was guarding him. Dad told me that he never saw him in that ferocious mood before, dad could not see anyone in the dark but surely there was some danger which our dog foiled. Will share his photo later.
Man's best friend is dogs and guns and you need to keep one. Still waiting the day i will be 30 and i can apply for an arm license.
Thanks

Thanks! The Saras kennels webpage has a pretty decent write up explaining the difference though the gaddi photo is quite poor. http://sarastibetanmastiffs.com/breed.shtmlcaptrakshitsharma wrote: Love the Caravan hound. My last dog which passed away last feb was a Himalyan/Tibettan Mastiff. I absolutely love this robust hardy breed and love the deep heavy bark and the active guard dog qualities which are shown best by this breed ..come nightfall . Some experts have told me that there is a slight difference between the muzzle of a himalyan and tibettan mastiff. would love to know the difference if anyone of u could educate me on it.

Guests coming to our house, often asked politely,
Guest: "What breed is this"?
Me : "Police dog
Guest : What? Never seen a poilce dog of this kind?
Me : Actually, he works undercover.

Funny hvj1 -- the smaller dogs are more active and alert compared to big ones. My friends Lab would eat anything in the house stomach was bottomless pit and then he was just a door stopper - bug*3r used just sleep and had to be pushed away ..hvj1 wrote:Guests coming to our house, often asked politely,

Hi Ngrewal.
Labs are known for this type of behaviour, that is the only reason, I dont go for them. I always prefer dogs who are lean and mean.
Regards

This the result of breeding without any consideration for the working abilities of a dog. Actually the labrador is retriever is supposed to be an energetic working gundog with tremendous stamina. In fact there are still working specimens where shoots are still arranged in the UK etc. But these look nothing like the show specimens with their mastiff like heads and heavy bodies. In fact I was showing my friend(a veteran in the dog show world) a video of an English gamekeeper's labrador, he said a lab looking like that would be dismissed even in India as of poor quality and unfit for breeding .ngrewal wrote: My friends Lab would eat anything in the house stomach was bottomless pit and then he was just a door stopper - bug*3r used just sleep and had to be pushed away ..
Thanks . Unfortunately I found out later that the guy is just a puppy broker. He used to pick up the pups at a pittance and resell them.I was lucky to get a good pup. At that time he was the only guy, but now he has been almost crowded out by a new crop of puppy brokers and the price of pups has sky rocketed. Getting a pup without visiting and seeing parents personally is really not advisable.ngrewal wrote:Yaj

Me: Yes
Visitor: Is he dangerous?
Me: Yes. He will lick you to death.
I have a Lab(Whiskey). You will feel he is the worst gaurd dog on earth.
I did not get him for being a gaurd dog. But I have been in some situations where he showed me unexpected sides of him. I have somehow become confident that if there is trouble this guy will be there. I dont know much about dogs and this is my first one, so it is possible of being a little defensive of him.

Re: My search for ultimate dog breed ends!
There was a time when people use to pick up Gaddi's on a visit to Himachal. No body use to ask money for them. You just ask in a village about puppies and If avialable take one which you like. One of my relative's oil tankers use to go to Ladhakh and other parts of Himachal, you just need to ask truck driver for a pup and they use to get one on the way back, now these pups are going for as high as 25kYaj wrote: Thanks . Just because of Internet and puppy brokers.

Joining in rather late in the day.
I agree with you Kanwar. Infact there was a time you really didn't have to purchase a pup. You just "picked" one up. Similarly if you had a litter at home you gave them away . The only criteria was that they went to a "dog lovers" house.....where they would be well looked after.
Times have changed ...ever since.
hvj1 .
Are these South African " Boerboel " somehow related to the Rhodesian Ridgebacks?

Leave alone desi breeds. I got both my GSDs free. You just need to ask owner of the Bi#$h to keep one in the next litter and people use to give happily and for some strange reason, I don't know anybody in my circle who's got a b**ch (Any breed). Everybody got a dog. SO no bitches being born nowdays
Now since both of my dogs expired thre years ago, I am asking my dad to get one for home but none are avialable
