BTW, I plan to breed the dogs in Satara, close to where we are planning the Tiger NGO, here the leopard population is very high, so any ideas and suggestions?

My Rampurs have managed to keep leopards away from my farm. But just a word of caution, leopards who are frequent visitors to villages and farms will try attack and kill dogs for food. Many a times I have come across situations where leopards have killed dogs for food.Dogs in general do not have any natural enemy.Whenever there is a standoff between a dog and a leopard the dog thinks the leopard to be just another cat.The leopard taking oppurtinity of this comes down on the dog.

Regarding Leopards,
Gaddi's in Himachal use a collar with spikes on it, maybe you can try that (If made with light material like Aluminum.)

I use Frontline plus to keep away ticks and fleas,it is a spot on application too.You probably use Advantix? I think it is about Iml per 10 kg body wt.
As NitroE has recommended cod liver oil is amazing for the coat .

Yaj!
I have seen extensive use of such collars in many areas of Terai Region.A Consevator of forest who was from Himachal Pradesh swears by it when comes to protecting his dogs from leopards.

Hello Inder,Yaj, Nitro
I have been mulling over the same thing, spike collar. The dogs have a better chance, because a leopard always kills its pray by choking the animal to death, unlike a tiger which tries to snap the neck (of smaller animals, definitely not buffalo). So in that context, it figures. Yaj has shown the spike collar, I;ll have to get it made. Finally, I must tell you the story of a small black pomeranian size dog, in the vicinity of my daily walk routine. This pocket size dynamo charges dogs twice his size! I guese he is well aware of what the spike collar can do and somewhere down the line he has developed a 'spit you in the eye' personality. Which is quite amusing.
I have been reading that doses of Vitamin C, given to b**ch (boerboel) before she delivers and also the pups, almost eliminates CHD. So what brand of Vit. C do you recommend guys?
Regards

Hello Hvj1!
If you are giving them premium dog food then all their mineral and vitamin requirements will be taken care off.
But if you are giving them home food, then you need to supplement their diet with vitamins and minerals.Your dogs would need calcium once they are + 2 months.
As for vitamin C, I give my dogs either Limcee or Celin regularly.
Here are a few more pictures of dogs with spike collars.

Just a query guys,
Which brand calcium supplement you use? I was using something called Astro calcium in north, don't know whether it is available in bangy or not.
Any special recommendation?

I have never used calcium supplements Inder, since I feed my pups Eaglepak or Bento Kronen so no supplementation is required. Calcium dosages and calium phosphorus ratio is a tricky thing to balance so I avoid it.Especially in the larger breed puppies too much calcium or too little both cause problems.
My adult dogs get more than their share of bones so Ca is not a problem. Another natural source which some dog people use is finely ground up egg shells.

Yaj.

Kanwar,
I think you were using Ostocalcium manufactured by Glaxo India.
I agree with Yaj of not supplementing dogs with any calcium etc. if they are on premium dog food. The calcium to phosphorus ratio is a very tricky arithmetic. The basic requirement of a medium/large breed is around 1000mg per day.
My wife who is into Saint Bernards, starts supplementing their food with calcium when they are around 3 months old.She uses either Shellcal or Sandocal. She starts with 500mg twice daily and goes upto 2000 mg once they are around 9 months old. This works for Saints.
The same thing on lesser ratio may completely mess up medium/large breeds.I have seen many GSDs overshooting their height because of this.I have also seen forequarters of Retrievers becoming bow shapped due to excessive calcium deposits.
