How Many guns are enough??

Post by Anand » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:08 pm

Dear Brothers-in-Arms and Sisters-in-Arms,
For fun and lack of anything else to do today :D :P , I was thinking how many guns would be enough for me.... I mean the absolute minimum acceptable to me would be???
I have taken into consideration, self defense from both humans and animals, concealed carry, recreational as well as legal hunting situations and aesthetic value (for display & bragging rights :D ) and SHTF scenarios and the ease of availability of ammo. So, I came up with a list of firearms and calibers:
Revolvers:
1.S&W 2nd Model HE in .44-40
2.W&S Mk VI .32 S&W L
3.Colt SAA 44-40 (cowboy action shooting :D )

Pistols:
1.Mauser C96 .30 Mauser
2.Feg Hi Power .30 Luger( already have it)
3.Colt 1911 hicap .308 Slammer
4.CZ83 .32 ACP

Guns:
1.Remington 870 Pump Action 12 Bore
2.Purdey SxS 12 Bore
3.Beretta O/U 12 Bore

Rifles:
1. BRNO Model 2 .22 Bolt Action
2. Westley Richards .30-06 (Mauser)Bolt Action
3. Winchester 30-30 Lever Action(cowboy action shooting :D )
4. Enfield (IOF) .315 Bolt Action (already have it)
5. H&H SxS Hammered .375 H&H

The calibers have been chosen because of the availability of ammo(however expensive or rare) in India! Some like the .308 Slammer can be made from cut down .30-06 cases and .32 ACP bullets. Even the .30-30 can be kept going with .32 ACP /.32 S&W L cartridges by way of chamber adapters.
Even this bare minimum adds up to 15 firearms!!! Feel free to add your lists!
Regards,
Anand

You can never have 'enough' of guns or money. It is that simple. While I have none in most of the calibers you have listed, I do have more than 15 firearms, and it isnt even close to enough. Though right now the only ones I am looking to add are a K-31 in 7.5x55 Swiss, MP-5 or SD-5 (9mm Para), and STG 44 (7.62 Kurtz), a Garand (.30-06 and Springfield Armoury mfg only), a Styer Aug (.223), a .30 BR of some sort, a 6.5x47 Lapua of some sort and maybe a broomhandle.

Realistically I probably will only add the K-31 this year. May just get a barrel in 6.5x47 and swap it on one of the Savage's.

In Rajasthan they have a saying
"man ka laadoo pheekaa kyon; ar pheeka nai to thoda kyon"

roughly translated as when making sweetmeats in your mind why go easy on sugar and quantity"

:agree: with MOA about the firearms part.

I recently met a gentleman Mr A*** K****** who told me as he was getting old, was decluttering his gun room and reducing his stock. He was telling me he now had only "thirtee..." guns.

"13?", I asked.

"I am not THAT old", he replied, "I now have only 30".

When I asked him how many he had earlied he said with a chuckle, "just to give you an idea, I had 38 Brownings".

So guys imagine how many other shotguns etc and rifles he must have had.

If it is just imaginary/fantasy then i dont think i can put down a list but ill name the types of arms:

SxS shotguns box and sidelocks
o/u shotguns box and sidelocks
semi autos
break barrel semis
rifled barrels
big bores
hammer guns
muzzle loaders

rifles:
sXs doubles box and sidelocks
o/u doubles box and sidelocks
bolt actions
drillings
combinations
muzzle loaders
under levers
assault rifles
semi autos

pistols:
semis

revolvers
single action
double action
cap and ball

katar guns
sword guns
walking stick guns
pen guns
spud guns
cannons

air guns:
bb guns
springers all types
pcp
co2

the list is not exhaustive

i dont even want to start with makes/calibres.
You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Don't think Nags would want a howitzer. He wants the real thing with a long barrel!

I wasn't familiar with that one, so I looked it up.

http://www.westleyrichards.co.uk/GUNS/Rifles/USAR23

23,400 British pounds. Hmm, that's for a used gun. The picture only shows the back half of the rifle, too... for that kind of money, I'd expect it to have provenance that it had once been owned by George V or someone like that.

New ones are only 12,250 pounds, but you can option them right on up. "WR Combination Firesight" for only 1,250 pounds, scope rings for 1,500 pounds, the list is long.

That seems like a lot of money for a fancied-up '98 Mauser.

The .275 Rigby, according to a quick internet search, is what I know as the 7x57 Mauser. A fine general-purpose cartridge by anyone's standard, but it seems awfully ordinary for such an expensive rifle.

Since money is no issue. I would love to try .30 BR with a titanium, tintantium or crystal barrel with a tuner. Assuming of course crystal could withstand the pressures et al.

Right off of the top of my head, I'd like a Webley Fosbery Auto Revolver. If cost was no object, a Purdey SxS and a H&H SxS in .375. I would also like a cannon -- a nice muzzle loading field piece (brass would be nice, but iron will do). I think I'd like a bore of about 57mm, which is the diameter of a pop can. Then I could make projectiles by filling empty cans with cement. It would beat a spud gun any day.

Barring the ones that I already have, I wish I had the following -

1. .45 with a high capacity magazine from either Para Ordnance or Wilson Combat.

2. Colt Python in .357.

3. 12 bore gun with extra barrel by Purdey.

4. Double barrel rifle by H&H in 375 H&H Belted Rimless Magnum.Should be Royal Grade.

5. 30 06 rifle by Accuracy International.

6. Benelli M4 Combat Shotgun.

7. Walther SP 22. (Need to teach my daughter pistol shooting)
