Pictured is Jiyanu, 55, an aboriginal Bunun hunter in Taitung county, Taiwan known as the "Hunter King" because he has slain 997 wild mountain boars over the past 40 years and is on his way to reaching his goal of 1,000.

Eschewing firearms, Jiyanu does it the old fashioned way with a 30-centimeter long machete and hunting dogs. When the dogs run down and circle a boar, Jiyanu rushes in and slices it through its heart. It's dangerous work and he's had his left knee fractured in a fight with a 140-kilogram boar that also killed two of his dogs and severely injured seven others. In another encounter he dropped his machete and had to wrestle with the boar bare-handed until friends rushed to his aid and killed the pig.

The Hunter King keeps 100 pig heads at a time in a storehouse. He changes machetes after killing 300 boars and now is using his third.
