Baikal MP 153 12 Gauge Semi Auto

Post by weapon247 » Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:34 pm

Attaching my new procurement a 12 gauge semi auto shotgun made in Russia... have already fired something like 150 cartridges already + 15-20 slugs!! without any problem.

comes in either wood/ synthetic .. i chooses synthetic as its more rugged... the standard barrel is 28inches and 3 chokes...

its a 4+1 semi very well built and tough ... costed me arounf 55K..
Also heard its sold in the US by remington under their brand name of spartan? am not sure maybe US members can clarify..

other pictures will follow

Thanks for sharing congrats - supposed to be a tough gun...Folks in India shell any where Rs 1 lakhs or above for Baiklas o/u - which are quite popular here. Tough guns all in all..
Yes they are sold under Spartan and very good value for the monies ...
( do post clearer pictures of your gun)

http://www.remington-spartan.com/ This isnt manufacturer site

But check Remington

this seems like Russian copy of Browning 12g,

Browning semi auto shotgun was sold in Russia to hunters and gained reputation as cartridge burner, instead of 2 shots you will fire 4 and duck still fly away.

@subha Das

If I am not wrong thats a Browning 2000??

I have handled both guns and they are world apart!!

Browning 2000 has no chokes comes with 2 separate barrel and although very nicely built has the feed on the left side and a different sort of cocking bolt I was offered one but passed as there are rumours of it having ejection problem on lighter load which is what I will be using them for!!

Congrats on your new aquisition.

Feed on the left means it is a left hand gun. Its not a standard feature of brownings.

Sorry Arminder cant help you out as I am west of the border!!

I have also heard a lot about baikal air rifles but its a rare breed here as well as more potent stuff is readily available :D

didnt get the time to take few snaps i will be away for the coming week.. will post pics after i come back

oh and I am primarily using it for trap and plan to use it for hunting as well

one another difference from browning is that the gas system is self adjusting for heavy and light loads.. although in beauty, weight and style the browning is a browning!!

Thanks for posting the pictures even in US its considered to be a great value for the money. There is a video on you tube about a test conducted on this precise model by Canadian hunters. Question regarding what do you plan to feed this baby..local kartoos or foreign ones? Incidentally in India Semi auto would require a special permit. Do post a range report and how easy or accessible is trap and skeet shooting in your neck of woods.

Cheers

Ngrewal your welcome..

Well in Pakistan it depends we do have professional skeet shooting clubs in major cities and then we also have private ranges/farmhouses .. just tag along a hand operated skeet thrower and your in business!!

Regarding ammo well uptil now I have fed it Brazillian Magtech and turkish ammo..we do get good quality ammo from POF as well just that nowadays their price is more or less equal to imported stuff or even higher +plus availability is also short heard rumors they have export orders that is getting them top dollar!! :D

there are other private manufacturers as well but there quality is dubious and most are avoided!! :(

In rupees how much do they cost and whats the rule of ammo endorsement on license. Also is the lic restricted to state or guns can be carried to other states as well?

@ngrewal

well in terms of cost it differs but usually its around Pkr 1100-1300 [turkish/Pakistani-Brazillian] /25 cartridge box of ammo... we have license issued from Ministry of interior which is all Pakistan and then you have provincial [although they can also be extended to All Pakistan].. I personally have only All Pakistan Licenses.
