Question in parliament

Post by mundaire » Wed Aug 11, 2010 12:18 pm

Yesterday, Hon'able Members of Parliament Shri. Sanjay Dina Patil and Shri. Ravindra Kumar Pandey put up a set of questions regarding Amendments to the Arms Act. It was listed as starred question no. *227. The questions & the written reply given by the Ministry of Home Affairs is attached.

Interesting thing to note is that they have admitted in parliament that they have NOT conducted any study/ assessment which establishes any linkage between legal/ illegal firearms and the rise in crime in the country. We can possibly use this admission to our advantage as it points to the whole exercise being based merely on the personal
beliefs and/ or biases of person(s) within the ministry.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members who got in touch with with these (as well as other) MPs and spent time to explain to them the issues at hand.

I would also like to congratulate the two Hon'able Members of Parliament for raising this issue on the floor of the house.

Cheers!
Abhijeet

Excellent first step towards making sense of this :D entire fiasco.

Absolutely! and this can be used possibly even in courts of Law, citing that while there is no proof that licensed firearms are being used in crimes, the applicants are being denied licenses without reason and arbitrarily merely on assumption or bias.

A very pertinent admission and one which would prove its volatility in the near future.

Hmmm

So this is how laws are made/amended in this great country of ours  .

I think these lawmakers should be tried in courts for endangering lives of license holders. How they think somebody can be proficient in using his firearm with just 50rounds a year. Do these guys even understand the criticality of self defense situations?

Kudos to both MP’s and NAGRI. Hope to see many good things like this in future.
