Shoot M16 in Cambodia

Post by shyboy » Mon Aug 09, 2010 1:04 pm

Was recently in siem reap ( cambodia) for a holiday.I remembered reading somewhere that tourists can shoot assault weapons there.Upon asking the guide,we were taken to the army camp nearby where they had a shooting range. we were handed a MEnU card with rates for shooting different types of assault weapons including a Gattling gun.
I selected the M16 and AK47 ( 30 rounds each ) for 90$ in total.
The M16 was an absolute pleasure to shoot. the recoil is very marginal. The Ak47 was also easy to shoot but I was issued protective glasses B4 shooting it .
All in, it was a real thrill.
After shooting, I was asked whether I wanted to throw a grenade.
I declined,am no Rambo.

Hi,

Did you go full auto? Semi makes the bullets last longer though. Got pics? 8)

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

It did not have a full auto setting. I did squeeze off a few 3 round bursts before my mag ran out.
I was on top of the world for a few days after this :D

What was the target distance? and which weapon was more accurate.

M16 is a great weapon in terms of accuracy but in terms of power AK rules - Your impression.

If i am not mistaken,AK is 7.62 ammo whereas m16 is smaller.Nato std 5 .5 mm ( think so )
Bound to make a diff. the target was about 100 ft away.did not compare the accuracy though.

In terms of accuracy the M-16 will probably run rings around the AK. The later is built with fairly loose tolerances, and is an area suppression weapon.

The 7.62x39 is an intermediate round, and per se is not that powerful. The typical 7.62x39 round shoots a 122 grain bullet at about 2200 fps. Not particularly powerful either with the typical mil spec ammo delivering approximated 1500 ft/lbs of energy.
