Can FOREIGNERS seek renowned shooter privileges?
Can a Foreigner with PIO / OCI status claim renowned shooter privileges like importing weapons and ammo if he/she shoots a renowned shot at nationals?
As far as licensing goes, Nationality may not be an issue, but will this be an issue while importing weapons and ammo?
Please let me know.

that would happen , if a foreigner with a foreign passport is allowed to compete in the nationals. Has it happened before? seems oxymoronic to me

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

1st/ to shoot you have to be member of State etc rifle club, or member of NARI.
click the link below which would take you the rule book. and contact the NARI direct for any info.
and let us know the out come.

1.3 Foreign Nationals who are members of NRAI and teams from Foreign Countries may be permitted to participate in the matches of the Competitions. However, they will not be eligible for any Trophies or Medals. Momentoes may be awarded to them.

as long as i get a fat ammo quota of atleast 2000-5000 rounds per year on a license, i would have no regrets

Participating in a shooting competitions and getting ammo quota increased are two different things. If you want ammo quota to be increased for target practice, contact the "Asla babu" in office of Licensing Authority.as long as i get a fat ammo quota of atleast 2000-5000 rounds per year on a license, i would have no regrets

If you have a foreign passport, why don't you practise abroad with better facilities than struggle for the measly quotas, babu favours and sparse ranges.
Perhaps, if you come out with your story clearer, we might be able to advise better.

Re: Can FOREIGNERS seek renowned shooter privileges?
Hami,
My story is clear....i am a US National with a PIO status and i dont see my self leaving India any time soon. Shooting has become a passion for me, big bore and small bore in Prone (for now) and 3 P later.I dont have a arms license in India yet....but thus far what i have learnt is that owning guns is no problem, licensing is also not a big deal, Big deal is Ammo Quota.
About 200-400 per year is cheap. This quota will not quench my thirst esp when i have a farm where i can practice without any problems.
For this reason, i wanted to go for Renowned status and get a 10k-15k quota....this seems to be a distant dream. Plz advise me what i can do regarding this?

Re: Can FOREIGNERS seek renowned shooter privileges?
I'm not sure who you have been speaking to, since licensing for lesser mortals is an uphill task. Can't you make trips to the US ever so often and quench your thirst there? It's surely going to be easier, and cheaper.amer4545 wrote: .but thus far what i have learnt is that owning guns is no problem, licensing is also not a big deal,
The Indian option is one hurdle after another, getting a license, joining a club, using club ammo, competing, increasing ammo quota and so on.
Also, I seem to remember, in the new arms act, ammo quota can only be increased directly by the home ministry
