HI HVJ1 i read your posting on mental training and i must admit that i am the guy that mutters, rock from side to side and dose all the other bad stuff.
the following is what i do during the taking of a shot .
1--load
2--grip, lock the wrist and turn the head towards the target.
3--inhale while raising the pistol above the target.
I AM A TALL PERSON AND I BRING THE ARM ALL THE WAY UP TILL THE CHIN TOUCHES THE SHOULDER 'THUS THE PISTOL IS POINTING WAY UP TOWARDS THE CEILING.
4--I then exhale while lowering to the top of the black.
5--check sight alignment inhale and lower to the point of aim. which is at the bottom of the target.below the 1 ring.
6--i inhale taking up the trigger pressure till the shot breaks.
i then lower and start all over again.

i do not have a mantra or anything, the above is what i do for every shot .
AS YOU CAN SEE I HAVE PROBLEMS .WHAT DO I WHERE DO I START..

Hello hello all you wonderful people. Last time i signed off with a never say die, I guess I really believed in it. So even though I thought my shoulders, my eyes, my ...mid life crisis  would stop me from being among the guys who repeatedly shot in the 90's. I was tired and didn't do any dry fire or holding for about a week.

So I began practising today, doing live fires of ten for every card my goal was to shoot about sixty pellets and call it a night. I was a little inspired by something that I had read about concentrating on the sights and then squeezing the trigger straight back. So I began first card same ole score, second card same ole score 85, 88...damn victory still eludes me and then I remember that I need to take a break and so I glug water and rest till my forearm muscles relax.

I shoot again and I add one more facet to the shooting pattern, absolutely no thoughts...no mind. So it is alighn sights keep looking down the sights let the target be a blur and squeeze. I shoot ten shots nine feel like ten's one went a little left to thanks to a voice in head. And when I walk up to the target...holy cow one ragged hole and one shot out of the hole...I know it is my best yet. Total it up and yes sir that's a 97. Egads have to see if I can repeat it. Wait for a fwe minutes, drink some water, shoot ten pellets...hmmmm 85. Okay I will shoot another card of ten. Only if I can repeat a ninety will the break- through be real. And so I call a friend share the new score and then watch a bit of television. Then I go back and relax and repeat another ten shots...woo hoo 90%. And so ladies and gentlemen the breakthrough is a shot sequence that is reduced to the basics of shooting. Keep eyes on sights, let the target blur, no thoughts, squeeze trigger straight back, follow through and booom. We are laughing in back slapping terms with the best of em.
Success to all of you hope you derive just as much joy as I have. Salute to our fabulous Guru and this wonderful forum.

Hi Jitu,

Actually most days I shoot 85/89 the same as you but I think now it is more the mental part than the physical.
I think Guru's tip on the sight picture memory is what one has to work on. I think the physical part you have already crossed. Again my humble views, I may be totally outa line.

Dev

Hi Dev and the rest of my friends,
Just switched on my laptop after an extremely hectic day, 6 hours travelling (driving at 130 kmph, yeah , I know , I am a lunatic. ). Then straight 12 hours of meetings and work, then I stumble back into my hotel room. Decide to keep body and spirit together, by applying a generous potion of spirit and then I read your performance. Damn, I dont even need the drink, I am so high and happy to read about your performance, brings back memories of old and the joys associated with it. So thank you for shooting 97 and the narration was exhilarating. I am feeling very good thanks to you guys.
Keep it up! Well done lads.
Regards & Good night (hic) :D

hey dev good going man
HVJ1

I have a slight problem I use a baikal and after working on the grip i have now got it to the state where it staqys aligned . The problem i have htat in natural position the front sight dips by about 3 mm so it has to be corrected now if you are going to correct and then squeeze then the barrel will tend towards the natural area . What do I have to do to the grip to stop the fore sight from dipping I know changing to a better weapon is one of the options as the baikal grip has no adjutments but i am determined not to get a new weapon till I at least qualify to go somewhere.

How do you correct it?, By cocking your wrist slightly?
now if you are going to correct and then squeeze then the barrel will tend towards the natural area .
I have not understood the above, kindly amplify, what is 'correct', what do you mean when you say 'squeeze' and what do you mean when the barrel tends to the natural area?

Finally Daktar Sahab, if you have a choice on operating with old scalpels or new ones, which one would you choose? If you stick to old ones, then 'Sawbones' it is :D
Still the choice is yours.

Jitu,

Switching targets doesn't chew much into the time, it is more of setting up each shot that disturbs the mind and everything else. By all means incorporate changing cards after each shot in your training atleast mentally you will be prepared with the scenario.

Regards,

Dev

Hello Trini,
Sorry for the delay, I have seen all your cards from Ft. Benning. There are a number of queries and I can read quite a few areas where you can quite easily improve. For this , I want you to specifically provide me with the following inputs:
1. Please ask somebody to photograph you from the front, rear, left and right side while you are shooting. (obviously you should be doing dry, when being photographed from front) Please note: That the photograph from the front should be taken at the exact height of the target, which 145 cms from the ground. To clarify further, the lens of the camera should be 145 cms above the ground, with you aiming dead centre of the lens. Finally, this photo should be clicked from a distance of 3-4 metres.
2. Photograph from the left must take in the entire body, not half or waist level, this is because, I want to see the position of your feet.

Hello Sawbones,
The Morini 162 EA, is the manual trigger, the one I have used at the national level and set a record in the mavlankar, which was broken last year (372/400)the one I recommend to all, good independent choice from your side.

Jitu, kindly repeat the question.

Best Regards to all.

Okay boss,

Glad to know that a good score lifted your spirits but these performances are not a constant they are more like a flash in the pan. I am still trying to disect what makes me shoot great and what brings it down to say the normal 85%.

Need to get the process right in a few months before the gvm. In life it's like a gian blender of work, traffic, other stuff and then oops practise. I am unable to do the required time and so I must face the slower rate of progress.

Regards,

Dev

Dev Ole Chap,
One of the reasons it is not going up is the fact that you believe it is a flash in the pan. If the mine can produce a nugget of gold, then obviously the vein exists. Believe in this fact. Believe that your subconscious mind knows how to shoot a 10 and that it can repeat this more often. Write this down 10 times a day and see the difference.

hello hvj1 good to have you back. thanks for taking the time to respond to us so promptly.hope all is well with business the family and every thing else.
photos will be provided shortly .MAJOR CONCERN. i have for the last 4 years been using / aiming at a mark of approximately 175cm --180cm while dry firing.how i came by this mark ?
while on the range and aiming at a targer . i had some one measure from the ground to the bottom of the pistol.
i then went home took up my stance ,measured from the ground to the bottom of the pistol.then placed a mark on the wall to indicate my point of aim.175--180cm
WHAT ARE THE IMPILCATIONS OF MY ACTIONS.
