REX O/U

I was on a lookout for a decent DBBL in Ludhiana. I saw a REX O/U with one of the dealers. The finish appeared to be OK. He is quoting a price of 30k. I searched the net but there is nothing available on REX DBBLs. Could someone please shed some light on the gun.

What dealer did you go to Ravineet? If you are planing on buying an O/U, go for a Modern.

O/U guns are impractical unless they have an auto ejector . Which I firmly believe that will not be present in this gun in question. Ravineet what was the barrel length of this gun . In-case ravineet you really want to buy an u/o I will advice you to go in for Russian Baikal . Since you have a hefty salary budget wont be a problem for you

Almost all O/U Guns(Indian made) I saw, had Ejectors "not extracters".

Found Modern a touch better than REX.

These Guns retail for ~ 28k.

normal when we fire the cartridge it is automatically ejected when the gun is opened , but in these Indian made guns one has to manually pull out the used cartridge , which is a bit difficult while doing it from the lower chamber .But in-case as .32 has said they not come with auto ejectors then it will be very nice and practical.

If the gun is good, i wouldnt worry about auto ejectors. I have to stop my spent cartridges from flying out with my hands and then pull them out manually. In fact this is what they teach at dozens of shooting schools.

So do thousands of shooters. Keeping this mind the latest beretta model prevail (which may soon phase out the 68 series) actually comes with an option of choosing a setting between ejectors and extractors.

Only when one has shot thousands and thousands of rounds that one becomes an expert in catching both of them in mid air which looks good but can be done by few.

Ejectors are useful in hunting high volumes for e.g. driven shoots when one needs to fire rapidly. In the indian context, this is has no bearing.

I am not usging you to buy rex. but just wanting to know about the disadvantages of ejectors.

Malfunction is common with ejectors in the jammu made guns after some usage. I would personally prefer the extractors to ejectors. My shotgun has an option of choosing between ejectors and extractors and I think extractors are a little less cumbersome .


I do acknowledge the validity of grewal's point regarding manual extraction of a spent shell from the lower chamber but even with the ejectors the spent shell is not going to fly out unless one breaks open the action properly.

Shooter I want to clarify one thing that the angle of opening or the extent of the opening of the gun is a bit less in Indian made guns than the imported ones. So extracting a spent cartridge is easy in imported guns than in Indian made guns .In simple language Indian guns open a little bit less than the Beretta's or the Perazzies so practically It is a bit difficult to extract the cartridge . Rest one can try and have a practical before going in for one

I have seen many Indian made O/U's(Modern, Mehar Singh, Rex) & all had Ejectors, did not come across one which had Ejectors.
These Guns are heavy & the extractor mechanism isn't smooth, one has to muscle the barrel all the way down till you hear a loud noise, jerk & a shrill through the plate.

I would say Indian expertise is in SxS Guns, there is a wide variety to choose from & quality is better than O/U's.

On a different tack my worst time at shooting range was with a Brand new Beretta Onyx. The tiring routine of breaking the tight action , it just wore me down felt disheartened barrel heating up...then another shooter had me do the sane thing by taking the gun to the club house for oiling and greasing--lesson all guns need good care and a importantly novice shooter needs good guidance, use proper gear ( including gloves) and learn the gun a bit otherwise best gun can be useless without either of these things..
