Re: Can this be salvaged??
bent barrel is an optical illusion or maybe due to my unsteady hands. Sea salt would be the rough dirty gravel sized salt that we used to get in our friendly neighbourhood grocery shop. dunno if it is still available though. The blueing has been done while the stock is still heavily leaching oil after boiling more than 7 times! (Am trying to restore it although I am sure I am not going to do a 'Mack the knife' on it.) Photos of the Blued barrel tomorrow!

Yup, sea salt is the same gravelly stuff, now hard to find, unless you look in a specialty foods boutique. I dunno what would happen with the Iodised tata salt ... No microwave, then heat H2O2 in a double boiler.simple and works everytime.

Get a new stock Wood and Wood workers are cheap in India. IMHO 0.0000000002 cents worth.

Re: Can this be salvaged??
I know of a great gunsmith doon arms ..but he is in dehradun. use him for alll the weapons in family. he restored my great grandfather's Lyon and Lyon 12 shotgun which is about 120+ yrs old.. and was in much better condition. the middle rib was rusted barrels were all thinned out n corrode and splitting stock was broken.. n the gun is a beauty now.. cost about 15,000. for new stock repair and excellent blueing.
