Re: PISTOL FOR SELF DEFENCE
Well please dont type in caps to begin with.
In terms of choice, your limitation would be the bank balance. In terms of caliber, youre limited by where you live and the availability of ammo.
While a .32 ACP would be the easiest to procure in terms of caliber, it is marginal as a caliber. Would reccomend a .45 acp or .357 Mag if your budget allows it.
And before nagarifle chimes in: A 155 is viable too. Lots of stopping power.

Re: PISTOL FOR SELF DEFENCE
I do know the .357, .32 and .45 are available in India. Specifically a member from Andhra had a .357 if I remember correctly, and was planning on buying a .45. So Yes they are npb.

.45ACP is a prohibited bore , in fact its still being used in sevice. ( The only exception in India is Republic of Mumbai , they treat this caliber differently) . So you cannot buy a .45ACP in NPB license.
However you are good for .357 and .32 as they are NPB caliber.

Re: PISTOL FOR SELF DEFENCE
Here's a short bucket list of what I can remember; .45 is and was a PB. We hope it wont be in the near future .
PB
.455 Webley (rimmed)
9mm Luger
9mm parabellum
.38 S&W Long (rimmed) also referred to as .38-200.
.45 ACP(rimless)
NPB
9mm kurz
9mm short
.38 Special
.357 magnum
.380 cal
.38 super
our dear old .32
and .22 as well (though I'm not sure one would choose that caliber for self defence, but then you never know. To each his own.)
If you can afford pricey ammo .38 Special and .357 magnum based handguns are your best bet. If not .32 is what you should opt for. As for the prices of the handguns, thats another story.

Re: PISTOL FOR SELF DEFENCE
Sorry mate, not in tune with the latest pricing and availability. You'd have to sift through it yourself by-
Checking this section http://indiansforguns.com/viewforum.php?f=41 for information on dealers and getting in touch.
Posting a wanted ad for the handgun you want to purchase in the wanted section.
That should get you started.
