my russian boar hunt
Hi Guys
im new here.an avid hunter and a knife collector.
i had been to ny recently and got an opportunity to hunt at the batten kill ranch.
it was a high fenced preserve but the hunt wasnt easy.
took us a whole day to smoke one hog.
used a .270 winchester.took a head shot but missed slightly.clipped its neck.the hog didnt fall.tough bastards.took me 10 minutes to track it down.took a lung shot this time and it ran 20 yards before falling.
not a perfect hunt but i enjoyed it.
and yes the hog meat was amazing.needs to be cooked well though.
enjoy.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Nice snaps. That's a nice boar youve got. The tracking must have been easy with all the snow around.
Nice snow scooter as well.
What else (animals) do these guys offer?

ahh rum.that wud go well with the meats.brihacharan wrote:Got a shoulder shot that didn't pierce his heart, the blighter bolted for nearly 200yds before he collapsed. Tough animals the Wild Boars.
boars are super tough.its really the way they are made.
their shoulders are huge armor plates and they protect most of the vitals[hearts n lungs] in a broadside shot.
i usually go for somewhere between the shoulder and the rib.
but then again im no pro.
its about learning the ropes.
enjoy guys.

Re: my russian boar hunt
Thanks castor0troy,
Was going through the rate list. It said $ 750 for a boar and $ 3200 for an Axis .
Thats about Rs 34000/= for a boar and a wooping Rs 144000/= for a Cheetal.
And that's just the trophy fee. Excluding Taxidermy, boarding and lodging .
Imagine how much our Forest Depts could earn if they allowed Controlled and Legal hunting.
They could raise enough funds to fence the jungles and arm their guards to fight poachers.

hunting is a mega industry in north america and its quite regulated i must say.
licences/tags are sold to a few and some of the money spent goes back to conversation.
thats what i like.
india cud definitely do the same.
take an animal cencus in a region and start auctioning tags.keep it a pilot project.
if it works then they could introduce the same everywhere.
i feel hunting is a moral issue back in india.kind of a taboo.
maybe we should all write to the environment minister to reintroduce hunting.
it could work you know.

another thing prashant.
750$ for a boar is cheap.
i was hunting with a few other americans and they all took the meat home.it lasts for months and its great value for money.
it was a bit pricey for me coz you cant take the meat home.
but i know of a place in texas where you can hunt as many boars for 250$.you gotta pay for the harvesting though.
they donate the meat if you dont take it home with ya.fair deal.
i saw your avtaar image.
care to share your images?
where was this hunt?

Re: my russian boar hunt
The skin is tougher than deer and the way the skin and flesh lie prevents much blood from spilling vis-a-vis deer.
That makes them difficult to track as compared to deer.
