To Moderators:Possibility of Hacking IFG & Loss of Data

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

To Moderators:Possibility of Hacking IFG & Loss of Data

Post by Anand » Tue Jun 29, 2010 6:34 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen,
You can call me a conspiracy theorist or a paranoid fool or whatever. I would like the moderators and the owner of IFG to consider the possibility of IFG being either hacked or "shutdown" in some other way, by those that may be irked by us or against the very reasons that IFG was founded in the first place. If precautions have not already been taken, I request the moderators to back up any and all data on IFG so that in the event of a "crash" it may be brought back online with minimal effort and difficulty.

Please do not think this as an unlikely situation  . This has happened on more than one occasion to some forums (fora) that I am a member of. One of them never recovered :( . I am of the opinion that IFG is too valuable, especially at this time to be "lost" or even "misplaced" for a short while. Please understand that hacking may not be the only reason for loss of data, it could be for any number of more benign reasons .

Regards,
Anand

In the recent few months there have been organizations that have come to light who are against guns. It is better that precautions are taken before its too late.

normally database up back have to be done daily and if somebody seriously wish to shut down the site he can do it, and almost nothing can be done to defend it.

:agree: :agree: :agree: if the moderators and the owner of the IFG takes all the measures the should be taken to protect the site, the hacking can't be done.anyways its a good to look into this matter.

While I agree with what you say I am quite certain the data on the forum is already being backed up.

Security is a function of time and money. No security is invincible, it takes time and money. Disabling IFG currently can be as simple as as a DOS or something better.

Per my understanding Data is backed and site could be rolled back to last saved back up offcourse some data / posts might get lost. Another basic security thing Agree with MoA's assessment above but small basic measures can go a long way for example having strong passwords with mix of letter number capital letter with min length of 6 or above, last and least not to keep the password secure and change every few months.

Best

as MoA said simple DDos attack and good buy IFG, if you still can read my writing it is a 100% prove that no body willing to pay $50 per day for DDos.

that rise in me second question, what kind of impact IFG actually having on guns rights. I dont think this forum are so populous to have any impact in country scale. Without having general strategy and plan of action impact of IFG will be very limited.
