Standard Issue Knife for Indian Forces
Dear Friends,
I have started collecting knives and focus mainly on the combat/military knives. I am familiar with the Ka-Bar of the USMC, M9 Bayonet by the US Army, Khukri for the Nepal army etc.,
Unfortunately I could not get any information online about the standard issue combat knives that Indian armed forces use. Do any of you know what knives our military uses? Do they have different knives for different branches of the forces?
Any information would be greatly appreciated since I would love to add one of our own to my collection.
Thank You!

Re: Standard Issue Knife for Indian Forces
There is no standard issue knife for the Indian Army. The Gurkha regiment carries the khuk which is sourced from some supplier in Doon i believe. It is poorly made and has a carbon steel blade as it tends to rust quick. The bayonet for the AK series and the INSAS is issued to units carrying these weapons.
Where required(specially in the North-East dense vegetation), soldiers and officers in other units buy and carry their own Khuks.

I remember seeing pics & reading about the 51 SAG of the NSG with Glock knives

would be intersting to know which ones are a standard issue to other Indian Special Forces Like the PARA SF, MARCOS etc

Re: Standard Issue Knife for Indian Forces
I would second on the quality of the Gurkha regimental Khukri. According to me, a khukri is better than a macchatee or a bowie or any of the blade designs used today. It's not called the indestructible knife for nothing. A cousin of mine has the regimental knife and believe me, I am yet to find something it wont cut across like a hot knife through butter. I just bought a Sirupati Khukri a few days back, will post pics soon.

Please share where did you pick the Sirupati from? Though they are made tough, some of the commercially made Indian varieties are junk at best.

Re: Standard Issue Knife for Indian Forces
indian army does not generally carry knives/khuks they are not part of std issue kit,it is only regimental issue in case of certain regiments(inf) only and dey are khuks/dao for gorkha, naga, kumaoni, garhwali tps,oder-wise its bayonets which are used, but officers who are intereted dey get dere own knives/daggers manufactured on special customised orders and its the road springs of discarded vehicles which is the most favoured material as its time tested and very low on maint, but special forces use imported mil blades for dere operational tasks....
