A question to anti-hunters.
Right guys,
Here is a question.
What do members esp anti hunting fraternity think about shooting geese and ducks (wildfowl/waterfowl) that come to our shores from northern countries like china, mongolia, russia, urals.
They arent endangered.
They arent local to India
Their hunting is even allowed in their native countries.
They dont breed here.
This is a theoritical question since our esteemed Govt. has banned hunting them for almost 4 decades now.

Re: A question to anti-hunters.
You want to hunt, you hunt. I won't stop you. But then arises the question, why do you want to hunt?? If somebody gives the excuse that it was being done from primitive times, they forget the fact that primitive man didn't have the brains to harvest food. So his only means of satiating his stomach was through meat. But as the primitive man started evolving, he learnt the ways to grow food. If you see, no other animal on earth has evolved that much to grow food. So, hence my counter question.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

All migratory birds have a wintering territory and a spring/breeding territory. I have always wondered how you determine that they are native to one territory and not to the other. Are not both equally important to the existence of the species?shooter wrote: They arent local to India

Re: A question to anti-hunters.
Bro, take for eg. the grey lag goose, suppose coming fromrussia.
It comes to india every year not india but lets say bikaner. thenwhenthere is drought, and there is no water or other things like pokran explosion, lack of feeding crops etc. so they change their course and go to pakistan.
But theydo go back to russia.
Hence the term non-native.
And i do agree that it lets nt discuss political boundaries, both sites are important so why then its right to hunt them in one place and not the other?
Dear M24.
You answered a question with a counter question.
I was asking esp about migratory birds. And the reason i want to hunt is the same reason many people here keep guns, they like it.
Are you saying that you are opposed to the idea of hunting in general or just critical/endangered/threatened species.?
I dont think chiru/ mallard; tiger/greylag; lion/teal can be dealt in the same manner.
And lets not even talk about mass produced commercially available food.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Re: A question to anti-hunters.
shooter,
Bad idea so forget the question....
No ways man, those birds are our guests, I would'nt harm them. I'd rather buy and create a wetland for them and encourage them to come back again year after year.
In fact that's one idea I want to practice. Its not originally mine but from a gent in Gujarat. He has an orchard full of fruit bearing trees. The fruits are only for the consumption of the birds frequenting the trees. This very strict rule was somewhat relaxed for his grand children with the clause that fruits can only be consumed by the grand children in the orchard and can't be taken outside. Man that person to me is a true bird conservationist.
I definitely intend doing something on similar lines.

Shooter, w.r.t your query on my stand on hunting, I am still trying to find one. My only problem with hunting is when it gets out of hand. One kills for food, I can try to understand that. One kills for fun, I can't.

Hi M24
I think man being primarily a hunter gatherer from primitive days, the instincts are hard to kill. And if done ethically and correctly like in many countries it balances the eco-system.
Hi shooter
I wonder what the answer to the question is!

Naaah...forget it.......
Actually even I would have to think deep to give a smart answer.
But lets just say "why harm them without a valid reason".
While I am not super clear about my reasons, one thing is for sure, No hunting for pleasure or sport.
All this had better be history. Even as a child I was upset looking at a picture of some royalty who has shot a 100+ tigers.
Not done, Simply NOT DONE

Welcome to the club. M24. Now you have hit the mark. THIS is the crux of this matter.
Absolutely.
Bhai imnot a big shikarior anything but i do know that inall countries where hunting is allowed, there is a quota which is strictly adhered to. And a shooting season.
Bro, I will show you pics of the land where i shoot. 10000- 50000 geese; i kid you not.
But there is a quota of 20. Most of us stop much before that.

Thats the truth;like it or not. worldwide, this has been proven over and over again.
The numbers, money research.
Go to ducks unlimited, safari club, BASC websites or the websites of various american fish and wildlife departments and you will know what i mean.
It is the hunters who protect the forests/flora and fauna.
I have written a post about it.
Who benefits from forests? or something like that.
And my recent post "hunters help the tiger".

Re: A question to anti-hunters.
Dear m24,
I dont think shooter or anyone here ever encouraged hunting for fun or being out of hand. Hunting has to be sensible and the restrictions have to be adhered to as shooter pointed out in his last post. The motto of hunting is eat what you hunt.
The problem in India being mostly we are an indiciplened lot and hence if the limit is 20 most people will exceed this.
