which DBBL should i go for ?

Post by waltherguns007 » Fri May 14, 2010 10:30 pm

Hello ppl ,
Finally after a wait of 2 yrs. , i managed to get my licence for a DBBL gun , so now its time to extract some knowledge about DBBL's , as i have to buy it soon .
plz suggest me which 1 i should go for ... SxS or O/U ? Am not a regular shooter as such , i need it for self defence , but i always look for gud quality n i am very fond of guns , so i wud prefer to buy sumthing really gud . i cud go for a price around 1lac , can i get a some gud stuff in this range (i mean imported DBBL's like - H&H ,Remington , Perdie , Churchill...etc ) or i have to loosen my pockets a bit more .
As far as discussed with a few dealers in last cpl of yrs. .....their pricing is too high , n apart from that i cant even make sure what exactly am getting from the dealer .
As i read a few topics about Indian make DBBL's , like Meher singh,IOF, Khairuddin or the Jammu make , which 1 is the best ?
I want a full butt , not a hockey style ...... n my preference will be for a short barrel like 22" , or 24" max 26", n single trigger......and the gun should not be a dumble....luking for a light 1 too .
Plss post your suggestions soon ......... thanks :-)

in 26" barrels it is difficult only grand european weapons are made in 26" barrel like purdey, churchill, boss & co, holland & holland ...... but they will go around 4 lakhs to 9 lakhs.
as usual in Indian Khairrudin's jammu spanish made barrel 12 bore is the best to use it will cost you from 50000 to 100000 max
Or go for CZ 28" , Westley Richards , BSA , W J Jeffrey , Geco German........ this are what available in INdia around 75000 to 180000

If you are not a regular shooter and want to go mainly for home defence, then the main thisg is reliability, not looks and balance, grain, etc etc. sXs willdo nicely.

In india, you can get a good gun in a lakh but that will take massive contacts, loads of luck and a lot of waiting and patience. So for practical purposes, forget it. For an englich best gun, quadruple your budget at least maybe 10 times of more.

Bhai one cant get every quality in one object otherwise Arjun would have had Draupadi all to himself.

Webley scott havelost their license of manufacture guns n the uk.
Their o/u are good but produced in turkey. Im not sure if there are any in India though. They are good guns, cheap and reliable, better than indian guns but they are no brownings/berettas/mirokus/perazzis etc.

Go for a sXs as you can get a better gun for less money. It is also lighter, and since you arent a regular shooter, it will do the same job as an o/u.

You are probably talking of the current lot.The older ones do not match that description. In fact some that I have seen are 'good guns' by any description. They used to make guns for H&H at one time.

Yes winnie. The Turkish ones.

Is that the same way army and navy used to make guns for Purdeys?

well , guyz i just asked that question about Webley O/U , bcoz 1 of the dealer has assured me that , he has got 1 Webley n scott o/u , in a very gud condition , n the gun will be coming to him in next 10-15 dayz , as the paper work will take somtime . The owner of the gun has imported that gun in mid 80's , n he has hardly used it . he didnt give me any idea about the price yet ...... so i have asked him to pls give me the idea of the price , which he'll give me around monday , after the discussion with the owner of the gun .
But one of our well known dealers told us , that Webley didnt manufacure any O/U DBBLs .....so he's misguiding you , but obviously thats a dealer fight , i just want to know the facts , that whether Webley used to manufacture ny O/U DBBL or not ...... thats all .
Thnksss

and I reproduce
Webley & Scott not only made their own guns but were one of the largest trade makers and made guns for many so-called `gunmakers`. H&Hs `Dominion` model was built by W&S.

Walther007

Where are you located :?:
What is your budget :?:
What will the gun be used for :?:

Any O/U will not cost you less than 1.5-2 L at current prices. So if it's an O/U you are looking for then the Baikal listed by Visho is a pretty good deal if he is open to negotiaiton.

If you are in Delhi....then visit Jitender @ Sharda Gun house,Bobby @ KK Sharma,Romi Kohli @ Rajdhani Traders, though he sits in Meerut most of the time or get in touch with Arshad who is a member here.Try Garg Armoury also he usually keeps quality stuff.
If not all atleast one one of them will have the gun you are looking for.
