APPLE VALLEY — An alleged armed robbery at a local pharmacy was foiled when one suspect was shot by the pharmacist Friday evening, authorities said, but a second suspect remains at large.
The incident, which occurred at Jonathan’s Pharmacy in the 19300 block of Bear Valley Road, was reported just before 7 p.m. Friday. Details were scarce, but authorities confirmed one suspect was shot while another one remains outstanding.
According to scanner traffic, the pharmacy was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects, described as black men wearing bandannas over their faces. The pharmacist opened fire and struck one suspect, Apple Valley Sheriff’s Sgt. Griffith said, but the second fled before deputies arrived.
An employee on scene told the Daily Press she had just left work when a friend called to ask about what happened.
“I thought it was a prank call at first,” the employee said. “I’ve heard about pharmacies being robbed before, but never would have imagined it happening here.”
The employee said the pharmacy’s boss and two technicians were there when the incident occurred. They were OK but “very shaken up,” the employee said.
The wounded suspect suffered “non-life-threatening” injuries, Griffith said, and was taken to a local hospital before being arrested. No further details on the suspect were available Friday night.
According to scanner traffic, the second suspect fled the scene in a black 2000 Nissan Altima. No further details were available.
