Hey, a Kimber Kommander !
Pretty little gun.

Did you consider a .40 S&W ?

Kommander? I'm not sure what you're referring to, Grumpy, I didn't know Kimber made a pistol that was called the Kommander.

This ones the Ultra Aegis II.

I did think of the .40 S&W, a good friend of mine has the Sig P226 in .40 S&W and I've shot his a few times, less recoil compared to the 45 but still a little more than the 9, I think, so I decided to go with the 9.

If a short barrel, short grip Colt 1911A1 is a `Commander` then the Kimber version ought to be a `Kommander`.
- It was only a silly comment.
Still a very pretty little gun though.

The Kimbers are after my time but everything that I`ve heard and read about them suggests that they are excellent.........and yes, I love 1911s to bits.
I never had much to do with Commmanders - the short barrel and short grip ruled them out for competition purposes - but the concept ( basicallly a 1911 carry gun ) has always appealed.........but even when we were allowed handguns there was no such thing as a carry permit in the UK. Personally I would have stuck with a .45 ACP but in the circumstances you detail you didn`t have much choice.......and recoil of the .45ACP in a Commander sized package is pretty sharp.
Have you tried a full-sized 1911 .45ACP in the same specification as your Kimber ? The high grip cut and extended beavertail really negate recoil.......and you could always get a gun with a compensated barrel which would help reduce recoil even more.............................Perhaps your next gun ?
Yup, I like inside-the-waist-band holsters as well - but in a cross draw mode. The high elbow stance isn`t comfortable ( or very fast ) if the holster is on the same side as your shooting hand.
So you live close to the Massachusets border ? Presumably Connecticut then as I know that they issue carry permits ?

Haha, thank you Grumpy. I know you used to work on 1911s back when you were allowed to own pistols in the U.K. , when you stop by to compliment, I pat myself on the back for my decision :)

Oh, and shouldn't you be in bed right now?

Only when Mrs. Grumpy hasn't put him in the doghouse. It's a rare event.

hey Naren,

I guess I'm late in discovering your AR...congrats- better late than never.

Sweet piece of hardware, which makes me hate you even more.

Better not catch you alone and unarmed in a dark corner :)

In a while I'll probably start dropping PMs with absurd nuts&bolts questions about your AR.... be perpared...

Anytime CC. I haven't shot the AR as much as I should have, given how long I've had it. The ammo price going up doesn't help either, it is hard to relate, I know. 50 cents (20 rupees) a round is expensive for me, where you guys pay 100s of rupees a round.

Rs.20 for .223 or 5.56? damn... you call that expensive?
Some places this side the KF .22LR retails for as much as Rs.25 a piece!!
Even if one could afford to turn a blind eye to the robbery, license ammo quotas most of the time limits to 50 shots max per yearfor most people other than competitive shooters!! Talk about shooting less :)

Grumpy, I think the commanders have a barrel length of 4.25 inches, and the Aegis that Naren has has a 3inch barrel.

I'd have recommended a 45GAP, shorter than 45ACP with similar ballistics. Springfield had a 45GAP 1911. I know its kind of oxymoronic for a 1911 in 45GAP ;)

Used to be even less, before the war in Iraq started. .223 is in short supply with most of it going to the military.

.22 LR (Winchester hollow points) are $9 for a box of 500. I think it comes to 0.72 rupees or so a round.

I do know about the 50 round/shot limit, my father has guns in India, and has to stay within that limit. He doesn't find time to go shooting a lot, once every couple months maybe, but for someone who likes to shoot more often, I am not sure what good 50 rounds can be.

Compared to other gun owners I know, I have a moderate to low amount of ammo. at home, which is approximately 500 rounds (total of all calibers) :)

My carry piece has been a Sig in .45ACP for a couple years now, the recoil issue is more for my dad and more when we're shooting for fun at the range. The Sig 220 is a great pistol, but I have the full sized one, and it can tend to be a little heavy and bulky, especially when I am trying to conceal it in a light outfit (e.g. cargo shorts). Of course if I could (The law allows me to but I don't think I want to) wear it in open view like a Law Enforcement Officer, I'd be rocking the Sig anytime and all the time.

Oh, at some point in the future, I definitely want a 1911 in .45ACP, recoil or not. I'll give it some time though, and understand and learn more about 1911s before I make a choice, and I know one person I'll definitely be talking to, during my quest :)

I live in New Hampshire, North of Massachusetts, but like I said, only a few miles from the border.

Mass allows carry permits, depending on what town you live in, just not for non-citizens. I am not a US citizen yet (I'd take the test tomorrow if I could but the law requires you to wait a long time before you can become eligible). I used to live in MA until two years ago, but as a non-citizen, was only allowed to own non-large capacity rifles or shotguns, no pistols. NH, doesn't have any such restrictions, for citizens or non-citizens, as long as you have a clear background and legal status, of course. So I packed my bags and moved to New Hampshire.

I just don't live in Mass, but I work there and spend a lot of my free time (I train there, have friends, I shop there, etc.) there as well which limits my carry possibilites. The gun club that I belong to is in NH though, so it works out for when I go shooting.
