"Do we want only imported firearms or do we want reliable well made firearms regardless of where they are made?"
If you want that former then you want that only those who travel abroad should be able to get a good firearm
If you want the latter then you are thinking of each and every person who is legally entitled to own a firearm
Personally I have no problem buying a pistol made by TATA/Mahindra/L&T/Bajaj or any other Indian maker as long as it is well made.
Open up gun manufacture and you would have another lobby working for you.One that will have money and the willingness to spend it.Unlike now.

They would be making guns and not building the Taj Mahal.
Nor are they going to make double barrel rifles.
Nor are they going to engrave their guns.
A major part of modern firearms, especially rifles and pistols is made from sheet metal, castings and forgings.Any one with a machine shop can turn out a reliable firearm.Should not take more than 6 months for them to be up and running. The players are already working on entering into partnerships with foreign firms.
You should also look at the fact that not all the firms are going to get orders.Only one will. The rest will probably be making rifles under license from the company that wins the contract. The civilian mkt. would then be the one to be explored by the looser's.
As far as the international mkt is concerned,it is highly competitive with well established players.India has no brand value.Margins are thin unlike the domestic civilian mkt.
Do you know any way we could get hold of such info .. where to start looking ??ven99 wrote: i think we should also collect information where the department rejects the application
