Joined Srifort Range today and learnt what I was missing

Hi Guys

I just wanted to share my joy that I joined Srifort stadium today and used one of the guns there and learnt what all I was missing. I have to learn so much. But above all it was realaxing. I dont think I have what it takes to be a gr8 shooter (I am too old to start) but its fun and thats what it is all about for me.

And Now I wanna yell "WHY THE HELL CANT I BUY GOOD GUNS IN INDIA AND WHY DO WE HAVE TO BE KEPT IN THESE CHAINS I HATE IT"

And how old are you ? Older than the gent here who shot silver in 10mtr air pistol at an age when most people have retired ?

There is no upper limit to get into competitive shooting.

My dear Gaurav shooting is a MENTAL game, if you tell your mind you can't do it, you will never do it so please start telling your mind every night that you can do it and are doing it. Have you not started reading hvj1 posts yet ?

WHATS ALL THIS FUSS ABOUT "Can't buy good air rifles / pistols in India ?" Are you looking in the right places and exploring the right avenues that are available ?

Whats a good a good air rifle or pistol to you ? Lets chat on Sat or Sunday at Siri fort and lay your doubts to rest. Once and for all.

Practically speaking.......(since AFAIK Siri fort is an air rifle range)

i. there are air rifles, and there are good air rifles.

ii. There are only a few countries in the world with the expertise and experience to build good air rifles, fewer countries that produce good match varieties.

iii. These quality rifles do not come cheap, not in India, not anywhere in the world.

iv. With import relaxation, you can buy them from abroad, like many members have done.

v. Even if you say you are too old to compete (which I do not believe! look at Olly and Dev), just shoot for the joy of shooting. I am the wrong side of thirty, overweight, shifty eyed, no competition hopeful. Yet when i pick up my feinwerkbau to relax after a hard day's slog, the experience is out of the world

I guess you got me wrong Shooting is a big stress buster for me.. and I really love it.
Going to the range was an eye opener and it was much more fun than shooting bottles with my spring action
But i think I wanna acknowledge I am no big shot atleast not now.

I hate and I am mad about the fact that really good companies do not have there outlets:-(( in India

Stopped field shooting in 1972
Started target shooting in 2007 now game had never shot a pistol before but im practicing again for the state shoot in june or july so dont worry about age

I entered my first National Championships when I was 30 and continued for the next 12 years without drop in performance. But i like your approach to shooting.. stress buster, that is how Mr.Sharad Chavan (my mentor/guru) took up shooting and look what he achieved. Silver Medal in Asian Games Delhi.

When I started shooting regularly at SVS, after a couple of months my better half quipped something about me being a transformed person. Work in the capital is keeping me away from it right now, but I am getting into the groove again at Siri fort, but only once a week.

I just started shooting after a gap of 18 years i was like in 4th class when i last shot. I bough myself a IHP35. feels great. Just wanted to know
1) how to shoot at the siri fort range
2) do they allow .22 on the range
3) i was offered a .22 IHP35 for 1700. used before and it doesn't have the cross hair on it. would it be possible for me to get a crosshair? should i buy the rifle/

> Your questions 1 & 2 are best answered by the people who manage the Siri Fort Range.
> As for your 3rd question - if the weapon is in good condition the price seems OK. But get it checked by a gunsmith at your local gun dealer before you buy it. Air guns don't come with any 'cross hair', they are an integral part of a telescope that is additionally mounted on to the gun. In case you want to get a scope mounted on to your rifle then you need to fix a base mount at the rear of the power plant. IHP guns do not come with a base mount as an original fitting.
Air guns come with:
1. A front sight that's fitted to the fore-end of the barrel
2. An adjustable rear sight (for adjusting windage & elevation) that's fitted on top of the breech.
3.A peep sight that's fitted above the pistol grip.
> Aiming is done either through the combination (alignment) of the rear sight with the fore sight or the fore sight and the peep sight.

Hi Brihacharan,

Thanks for the info. I used the incorrect terminology. The rifle didnt have the the front sight. Anyways after i told the guy that i had paid 4200Rs for a new IHP 35 .22 he has a new person who wants to buy the rifle from him

What is better for target shooting pointed head or flat heads?

For target shooting flats are used , since it cuts the target paper properly for better scoring.

Other shapes of pellets just tear up the paper.
