Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Looks good. I didnt realise the IOF was inspired by the Brno.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
I think more than inspired, looks like a straight copy. Only much rougher. A true riplica.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Hey ppl,
Just bought a used .22lr by IOF 2 weeks back. I really need some info on the rifle as it is on the .315 action, the barrel says "Made in Indian Ordinance Factory", the rifle number is 15. Compared it to a friends brand new rifle, the barrel on mine is about 2 inches longer and is tapered. The sights are those of the .315. Everything is of a .315 except that it fires .22lr. The build quality, bolt and trigger is far better than the IOF new lot. I paid 40K for it. It is quite accurate, cycles rounds as if they were greased. Will post some pictures in a day or two.
Regards,
R.Dhillon.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Congratulations & post as many pictures as you can please! Are you saying that its not a copy of the BRNO? If its truly on a Lee Enfield action we would like to see exactly what it is.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
R-Dhillon,
Thanks a lot for the pictures. It is nothing like I have seen before! Can you post a few pictures of the magazine & close ups of the breech and bolt area with the action open?
A few questions:
What is the magazine capacity?
Do have any history on the Rifle, like when it was manufactured and from when to when , was it an interim design like the modified lee enfield 7.62mms etc?
Is there any way you can post pictures of it next to a BRNO copy of the IOF?
What does it weigh?
I always wondered why in the world IOF would manufacture a copy of a BRNO when a perfectly capable action was available already for modification to .22LR. seems like I was'nt the only one to think that.
If this was an interim design, then why was it discontinued at all? questions, questions...
Regards,
Anand

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
It uses a six shot magazine which is same as the IOF, a gunsmith told me that the barrel is Japanese as it is very different to the ones available now. The grooves are better and it is lighter, probably coz its tapered. I am thinking of getting her modified to look like a Lee Enfield sport version. The stock and the checkering are way better than the IOF as well. Will click and post some more pics tommo.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Anand: The answer to your question lies in "modification". Most nations produced .22 RF training rifles on their large center fire actions. Mostly on worn out actions, sometimes purpose built for cadet training. Most of the time single-shot. Usually they require so many tooling modifications as repeaters to make them anything but make-shift adaptations, that it would be cheaper and better to design a purpose built .22 RF trainer. The IOF rifle seems to fit in with British rifles built after WWII, culminating in the No. 8, except for having the Mk.III as its basis. However, they all are needlessly large and heavy for a .22 RF; but for training and competition. A purpose built .22 RF action like the Brno is a better choice for a sporting rifle. Cheers.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Two Rivers,
I have done plenty of shooting during my National Cadet Corps(NCC) days. The rifles used were old SMLE .303s. They were single shot with just one or two roughly scratched grooves in the barrel. Whereas this one is more like the sports version of the Lee Enfield and the barrel and action are just too good to be made in India. Besides the NCC ones were never sold to civilians. I compared it with a brand new IOF .22lr, this rifle was way better, had a better trigger, smoother bolt, better sights and was just a few grams heavier. Haven't tested it at the range yet but I am pretty much convinced it'll do better than the IOF ones available.
I was told yesterday by an uncle that they were quite a few produced before the IOF people decided to replicate the CZ. I really want to know its true origin but I am sure that it is not one of the NCC Lee Enfield SMLE's.
