Grewal, lets put it this way-this topic is about SAM and new 30-06.What you were trying to say is a bit of a mystery , and then this post got hijacked by you-YES, unsafe practice of firing in the air . DANGEROUS. anywhere in the world. That's all was being pointed out.Not the region you come from. You are being carded for this.try to make sensible posts or GO elsewhere.

eljefe,I have ordered warne bases and mounts for my rifle about scope I have not yet decided which one to go for inputs on this shall be highly appreciated

With scopes, you generally get what you pay for, and the more expensive scopes are definetely worth every penny. A reasonably priced line that has been getting good reviews is the Falcon Menace.

I like the Weaver scopes as well, but I have had bad experiences with Leupold and Bushnell so I dont buy those.
For my money, I would go for a Nightforce scope, but if your shooting is limited it will be an overkill, and may well cost more than the rifle dependent on the model.

Also if you are going high end, please stay away from Sarvoski, Zeiss etc.. and stick more with the likes of IOR Valdata, Nightforce, S&B, March or US Optics.

On the cheaper end the Falcon Menace does stand up to use well, as do the Weavers. Tasco is a game of hit or miss, so is Baraska.

what height mounts ? I suggest you match the scope to the mounts e.g a 56mm objective-the lens towards the muzzle- scope will not fit on medium height mounts.Go to any of the popular scope maker sites and see what scope matches the mounts you've ordered.I know it will be difficult to send back/ make exchange...
Dont be tempted by 'sheer horsepower',4-16x and 6.5 - 20x etc are 'hubble scopes' check out the Simmons WTC range. a 3-9(power)x40 mm(obj dia) should be more than enough for routine use.If its target work, then be prepared to shell out...NF,S&B, IOR etc

1+ on what Eljefe just said, make double sure that you match your optics to your ring heights carefully, with the IOF .30 you have the advantage of a 60-degree bolt-lift unlike the 90-deg with actions such as the M98 Mausers coupled with an ambidextrous tang safety which will allow you to go as low as you wish with the rings (base heights being standard, unless you use adapters) I have a set of Weaver 1" ultra-lows on my IOF and a Banner 1.5-5x20 sitting onboard, I personally dont see the need for optics greater than 4-5x and the straight-tube scopes are my all-time favorites owing to the fact that you can make them sit very, very low on the rifle, directly putting your optics closer in-line to the axis of the bore, allowing you to make fewer adjustments to the scope to fine-tune the gun. I've finally managed to get myself a good tripod so will take a few pics of the custom 1-piece bases and post them up here soon. Hope you new toy's settled in nicely and is well-behaved!

What are you going to do about mounts and rings? Should you remember, we had discussed this issue sometime ago when I had said that I would probably have them custom made, just the way I did for my Brno Mod1. Fortunately, I had someone coming over from the US and he agreed to bring over a set of Warne mounts and rings for the Sauer 202. He should come over tonight, maybe I should have them with me tomorrow. Price for them? Rs. 2925 for both the sets.

Should you have a custom job done, do look for someone who can do a 'wire cutting' job from t4 aircraft grade aluminium. Avoid MS in EN8. It makes the pieces too heavy. Do post pics once you can mount them.

Moreover, somehow I feel that the scope that you intend to use would be overkill. But again, you would know better. I myself will be putting up a Bushnell 3-9x40E, altough I'm not really happy with it. Maybe I could change over to the new Redfield 3-9x40 at a later date. I'm hearing good reports about it.

while some sites (incl opticslanet) say its for a 223-probably has ranging reticles/turrets designed for the 55 to 62 gr 223 cal, I have no experience with a Leatherwood, except dim recall that leatherwood ART's were used in Vietnam.

Did Carlos hathcock use one mounted on that 50 cal for his most famous shot??

hope you get used to the reticles and most importantly, I dont know how they will work on 150,168 or 180 gr 30-06 ammo.Not easy to send it back if it does'nt work out...
