Re: Which DBBL?
Thanks, asked from local dealers, they say pump action double barrel is not licensed these days. Further they say that bore is NPB but the action(pump) is made prohibited!
Is 26" barrel with conventional butt a good choice?
How is Visco as a company? A local dealer says that the light built of Visco is due to lowered quality. Is this the truth about Visco?
Also, any idea of Visco's pricing?

Re: Which DBBL?
1.You need a license valid for SBBL gun to buy a pump action shotgun
2.All shotguns(but for semi-auto's and in .410 bore ) with a barrel length of 20" or more can be bought on a license issued by the local licensing authority and are commonly classified as NPB.This would also include all pump action shotguns.

Re: Which DBBL?
Another very important query fellows, are NICKLE plated barrels better? I mean do they really help in warding off rust!
I would need feedback on Visco, if its a good gun, I'll get it.
Also, help me finalizing the barrel length, its between 22" & 26".
EDIT: Thanks Winnie, the local arms dealers say that the authorities are not issuing licences for Pump action guns!
So, Im going to choose a Double barrel only now.

In my opinion nickel plated barrels are not good. I would not go for a nickel plated barrel as it would reveal my location in darkness.Another very important query fellows, are NICKLE plated barrels better? I mean do they really help in warding off rust!
All the propellant of cartridge is burnt within around 16" of shotgun barrel, hence technically any length greater than 16" is good enough, legally it has to be 20" or more. Barrel longer than 16" does not add to the ballistics of shot in shotgun since all the propellant is burnt within maximum around 16". Range(shot spread) in shotgun depends on the degree of choke in the barrel. For details as to why shotguns have different barrel lengths please read under "Barrel length" at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShotgunIs 26" barrel with conventional butt a good choice?
I would avoid unknown brands, and would stick to well known brands like IOF, BSA(England), Khairuddin, Mehar Singh, Modern etc.(If going for desi brands look for the barrel marked as "IOF tested".) Read somewhere that IOF tests barrels by firing 3 times charge of normal cartridge. How is Visco as a company? A local dealer says that the light built of Visco is due to lowered quality. Dealers can say anything. So long one has a license that says either NPB shotgun or SBBL or NPB firearm he can purchase pump action shotgun.EDIT: Thanks Winnie, the local arms dealers say that the authorities are not issuing licences for Pump action guns!

Re: Which DBBL?
Thanks Goodboy for the informative post.
You've stated a good reason not to opt for Nickle plated guns!
Ok, so barrel length won't matter much. I thought maybe longer barrel would give longer range.
Some IFGinians had suggested Visco stating that its a good brand. I was unaware of it before.
I asked local authorities also, they say that Pump actions are not endorsed nowdays. I though its not worthwhile getting into all the hassle. So, am sticking to conventional Double barrels.

Re: Which DBBL?
Licensing Authorities these days appear acting as Nawabs and creating their own laws with no regard to Arms Act. Legally speaking pump action shotgun with barrel 20" or longer is NPB. Anyways since you have decided not getting into the hassle that is fine. BTW if you feel it is all right for me to ask, were are you located in Punjab?I asked local authorities also, they say that Pump actions are not endorsed nowdays.

Re: Which DBBL?
That's right & I don't like asking higher ups putting in a word.
Btw heard IOF Pump action has problems of its own.
Either way, Im decided on a Double Barrel now. Just tinkering on what barrel size to get: 22" or 26"!
If its going to be 22", it would be a pistol butt & in case of a 26", it will be a conventional butt.
Visco & Rex are the brands Im interested in as of now.

Re: Which DBBL?
Visco as it turns is out is the most expensive Indian made Double Barrel.Period.
Friends please help me selecting a Barrel length, its between 22, 26 & 28 inches.
Im not going further than 28" because it would be difficult to carry in car & would touch the ground when held in hand with barrel facing downwards.
Also, is Nicke coating on the barrels helpful?

I doubt Visco is most expensive but neither does the price tag essentially equate to good quality. You should still go through the checklist especially whether feel of gun, barrel ( no dings), whether IOF proofed 3 inch or 2 and 3/4 inch what kind of steel, extractors, action and balance. I still think time permitting you should ping Khairudin and see if they can land you a fitted gun.
I havent seen Nickel coating barrels I personally like the good old barrels
Either way good luck with the purchase

Re: Which DBBL?
That's right, price doesn't have much relation with quality. I tried Visco, its light weight, built quality is good, finish is superb.
"Dings"? On steel quality, which is better, IE 9 or 19?
Khairudin not available locally, atleast not in Asr, Jal & Ldh.
Actually I saw some Nickle coated guns & the dealer said it prevents rusting.
Thanks for the wishes.

Re: Which DBBL?
Here's an important query, can one not sim with hockey butt guns?
Ok folks, Im more keen on the regular butt guns now. So, suggest me some good barrel length which is carryable in car too. Also, the barrel should be shorter than 28".
Obviously do suggest some good Indian make too.
Also, should I buy a gun with or without ejector?

Re: Which DBBL?
32 leave all the brands, go in for mehar singh & co , you can get one from Patiala with the best price in entire Punjab including Chandigarh. mehar singh is the best in quality and has the best resale value after India ordinance gun. Regarding size of the gun , go in for deluxe model ( this is what they call it ) it has small barrel and a small but (standard design) not hockey type . It will be the best choice .

Re: Which DBBL?
Amit, no Im yet to buy one! Actually still deciding on the barrel length & manufacturer.
Chandigarh sounds interesting, will try & make a trip soon.
Grewal, enquired about Mehar Singh & came to know that production has stopped since 07. So, can only get old/used guns.
Can you give some more inputs on deluxe model?
So, I guess almost everybody is against the Hockey-butt Gun! I better stick to conventional butt in this case.
