Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route

It turns out that its a very rough sailing for getting an Airgun imported, if any of you has had a bad experience in the process please consider posting a grievance online at the Indian government portal against Arms act.

We have posted a link where you can register your grievance against the Arms act , Law online.

The more grievances/suggestions we have the more are the chances that some of the suggestions will be implemented in the new arms act.

You can bring one in your baggage as long as it is not mounted on a rifle.I do not think you can import one in post.It is a controlled item but not prohibited.Go figure.

My import experience of the 460 Magnum from Topairguns.com was rather smooth, except for some minor technical goof-ups by UPS. Though the assured date of delivery was 4th December, I got it only on 12th. The delay was attributed to the refusal of the domestic airlines from Mumbai to Chennai to carry it, more so because of the blanket ban on parcel services on December 6.
My sincere thanks to Striker (Sankar) who made the transaction using his credit card (since I don't have one). I gave him the cash and he, in turn, made the payment using paypal. Top Airguns chief Dirt E Harry is a nice guy to deal with. He answered all my queries patiently.
I would also like to thank PK Jeetesh for his excellent post on airgun import. These tips helped me a lot.
However, i didn't send the original documents. I took a colour photocopy of my rifle club ID and laminated it and got the colour printout of the bonafide certificate notarized (this was Striker's idea). Along with these, i took a printout of the DGFT notification on airgun imports and sent all three to UPS.
But, I was asked for the original ID by the lady at the UPS helpline. I told her that there wasn't much difference between the original and the photocopied one since the original doesn't bear any hologram. After some fuss, she said she'll pass on whatever I've sent to the border clearance cell. To my surprise, the Customs cleared it in a day.
But the tracking results provided by UPS were confusing and misleading. For eg., when the package was offloaded by the domestic airline, the result shown was 'package delay due to additional security check by government or other agency'. This is where I really, really got tensed. I thought the cops had detained the package on suspicion. And when I called up UPS they said it was being sent by road through Gati.
Then there was a brief lull and I again called up UPS, and this time a guy spoke and he gave me the Gati tracking number. He told me that Gati would deliver it at my doorstep. I then called up Gati people, who told me that the parcel was to be delivered to the UPS office at Chennai.
In the meantime, the UPS tracking results showed that the parcel had reached Chennai and when I called up their Chennai office, i was told that the shipment had not arrived 'physically'. I had no clue what this meant.
I kept following Gati's tracking results and upon learning that it had reached UPS office in Chennai, I called up UPS. They said the parcel would reach my home by the evening. And, it did reach. But, UPS never returned the documents which I sent.

No, I don't know how paypal works, but please don't hijack threads like this. This thread is specifically about Airgun Import experiences.

I agree with M24 that this is a thread hijack but what you have to do is log into the paypal sight and register with your e-mail. They have a paisa pay facility and when you read up on it you will understand that you can add a credit card to it. The payment is made from your email to the seller's email id as long as he also has a paypal account.
I have forgotten the rest of the stuff but don't be shy and log into paypal and learn. They will teach you how.

Received the 350 Magnum after the 4 month wait. (My rifle saw the rains and winter in Mumbai airport)

Patience finally paid it off.

350 Mag was well packed and got the rifle with the mounted 3-9x32 Leapers scope & Plano rifle case.

Will post the pics soon.

Had spent several hours talking to the folks with UPS Mumbai, Customs, etc. After 2009, I gave up the hope of getting the 350 Mag. Out in the blue in Jan 2010 had a call from the UPS team that the shipment was cleared

congratulations mate.....well worth the agony and the wait....you will not put this mini HULKTER from Diana down once you begin to shoot with it...one hell of a kicker, but once you know how to hold the 350 right, ....you are going to have a great SUMMER along with it...

He said the gun will cost me $ 600 plus $ 85 for US Post.
I intend to buy the gun in 0.177 calibre.
However, I am not a member of any rifle club.
Since, it is mandatory to be a member to be eligible for post import, i intend to become one.
However, not just for the sake of formality, but i really do intend to upgrade and practice my shooting skills.
Can my fellow IFG'ians help me with the info about the clubs in Mumbai and how can i become a member ?

I purchased Crossman 1377 air pistol from Pyramydair,delivered at my home by Fedex courier.
After ordering online I wire transferred the money from Bank of Baroda.
Price of gun $56+$77courier charges+$15 money transfer charges by BOB= $ 148 spent.
It took 12 days to reach me after i finished payment procedure.

Don't try importing anything without a rifle club membership the customs will make you age with their constant demands for the right papers.
